Peter Kelamis was always my favourite 'English' goku, even though I had to watch schemmel most of the time on tv because I didn't use the internet that much. Then one day my grandparents bought me dragon ball z vhs that was in japanese from an antique kind of shop. I was kinda shocked at first by Goku's voice, but the more I watched, the more hooked I got. Also Ryo horikawa blew me away as vegeta. Ever since then I've only watched the japanese version because the voice acting, music and just everything is superb

.
Also the movie I watched was movie 7 Kyokugen Batoru!! San Dai Sūpā Saiyajin
Nozawa is favourite goku now btw.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

It sounded silly and jarring to me, and it still does.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I was shocked initially. It was so high, but then I grew to love it. I first heard it when I rented a video from AnimeFX, and I was completely taken aback by it.
And no, Kelamis doesn't sound anything like Nozawa or have her talent.

I think the first time i heard Nozawa was from those short videos online in 2001, then when DBZ movie 4 was released in NA. When i first heard Gokuu in Japanese i liked it.

I'm sure I'd heard her in the few Japanese Dragon Ball video games I owned and via some clips on the internet, but it wasn't until I bought my first Dragon Ball DVD that I really, really sat down and listened to her.
I think the best way to put it is that it caught me off-guard. I wasn't outraged, I wasn't confused, I wasn't even upset. It's just not what you expect when you've only ever heard the FUNimation dubs. But I fell in love with her performance very quickly. Very soon, she became *the* voice of Goku. Of Dragon Ball. In the years since, my appreciation for her work has only grown. Whether she's playing Guilmon, Tetsuro, or even minor roles like Masamune in Pocket Monsters, I can't help but grin from ear to ear whenever I hear her.

Someone mentioned Kelamis as their favorite. The "no" was a rhetorical device.

When I first heard Masko Nozawa, I was really suprised. I was like why is Goku a girl

. Ever since I learned about it though, it really grew on me so now I listen to the awesome Japanese dub as much as the English Dub.

I prefer kelamis as the 'english' goku. However Nozawa is my overall favourite goku.

The first time I heard Nozwawa's Goku was in some YouTube clips back in 2007, I personally just didn't care about the voice, I just didn't care about the Japanese version overall at the time.

Spot on!
I wish they had dubbed all thirteen Dragon Ball Z films with Peter Kelamis (plus the Ocean Group cast, of course) but my first and foremost preference for Goku is and will always be Masako Nozawa.
They only dubbed the films 1-3 but despite not being much it's still pretty awesome to rewatch it with this cast.

I was just getting back into the franchise at the time and I really couldn't stand what I was hearing from the English voice cast in games and in clips of the cartoon. So I switched voice tracks in one of the games and was blown away by the Japanese cast as a whole. I found Nozawa's voice to be charming and it just fit the character(s).

My initial reaction was a bit of a shock! I remember being very taken aback by it, but at the same time there was something just so unique to the voice that it really reverberated with me. In 2009 when I got the Dragon Boxes as they released I watched DBZ for the first time in all Japanese and I've never looked back since then. That's the truth! It might have taken me a whole from the Toonami days but I finally got around to watching DBZ as it should be seen.

I completely agree! Those first three films with Peter Kelamis still have a soft spot in my heart. Peter was just a much better Goku for me, way above and beyond anything Schemmel could offer. To this day I wish that Peter had stuck on with the franchise, even if his successor did do a decent job of attempting to emulate his voice.

I didn't really have much of a reaction. I do like her as Goku, but I prefer Sean just because I'm more of a dub fan over subs.

I first heard her in the Buu arc. I actually remember saying "Cute!" out loud in reaction. X3 I really liked that quirky, lilting voice for Gokû and still do. It part of what makes him, him.
On hiatus.

The first time I heard her voice was in the Eradicate the Super Saiyans special, and I hated the voice. I thought it sounded like an old lady and at times, like a cat being strangled. When I heard the Battle of Gods trailer, I liked it even less. I thought the acting was easily the best for the character, but just couldn't get past the voice. It didn't match the look of the character to me. I decided to go through the series from the beginning starting with Dragon Ball, and loved her voice onward! She's awesome!

Ultimate Battle 22!
I never once, for how often I played it, questioned why
Ultimate Battle 22 wasn't in English or had an opinion on any of the actors.

I played the Legend of Zelda games so I was used to a high pitched male archetype for Japanese characters.
I then heard Nozawa as Goku in Super Boutden 3 for the first time and thought "Huh, that guy is really high pitched...guess it works."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNmp9nlrcjc
Ryo Horikawa instantly had me sold: (my ears hear) "Sho-brada Kakarrato!"
Masako Nozawa then chimes in with: (my ears hear) "Coooi eeeent Be-gee-ta!!"
At that moment she became sysnonymous with Japanese Goku (the dude with a high pitch voice like Link lol).
...it was not until maybe a year later I learned that it was a talented female voice actress and by that point I was like "Japanese Goku has a high pitch voice, the fact that a girl owns it is fine with me." The older I get, the more I respect her voice talent. It actually saddens me now when I hear ignorant male fans bash her for having a different gender. Or claim there is a "squak." To each their own, but to deny her talent is objectively ridiculous. She does 3 distinct male roles, replete with 3 distinct male dialects or I should say deliveries on top of tonal changes as well as 3 different Japanese speech patterns... ON THE FLY!!!
"You might think you know everything there is to know about me, but really, you're not even CLOSE."
"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell
How I enjoy the anime:
