For sure, gotta get FUNi's release of movie 12.

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Yes, I may be missing some of the image but if you think about it... it was never meant to be seen in a 4:3 format. If it weren't for FUNimation, we'd have never known. Which is why Toei is releasing a 16:9 format, because it's how it was originally viewed in Japan. Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't go to the store and pick-up a Full Screen version of a movie that I saw Widescreen in theaters.
To be a bit fair, the video releases of these movies did come on 4:3, but I imagine it was because cropping it again into an even smaller 4:3 would look pretty awful.

Glad to see someone agrees though!

Edit: Movie #12 is my favourite of the DBZ movies, mostly because it's very campy, very fun stuff. It makes a good use of it's alotted time (unlike say, movie #8 or #3), and contains a lot of very memorable parts. I'm very glad more people will be able to see/own this, as it is probably one of the best pieces of the Dragonball franchise to come out.

Looking at the extra commentary video about Dragon Ball Z and Goku vs Vegeta in the first Ultimate Uncut DVD, you can see that Sean and Chris are both providing voices for the movie. So chances are that it was finished quite a while back.

I don't dislike the dub voice for fat Janemba due to dialogue, it's not that at all. It's the voice tone Kent Williams uses for that form of Janemba is what makes me hate it. Originally, fat Janemba sounds like a baby with a cute voice, think Josh Martin's Buu voice. However, the voice Kent Williams gives this form of Buu is just...not right. He sounds completely NOT like the Japanese VA in any respect, and just sounds like a mentally retarded 40 year old male rather than a cute, baby-like tone that's clearly present in the Japanese version. Like I said, I would have much more preferred FUNi going with Josh Martin on fat Janemba, but I guess the voice director decided to be cheap and stick with Kent Williams. Williams does a pretty good post-transformation Janemba, is 1st form version just plain sucks very badly.

Hell, way back in November of 2004, there was already dubbed footage available in the "Extras" area on FUNi's "A Hero's Legacy" GT special DVD. Sean Schemmel and Kent Williams clearly in the roles of Goku and Janemba, respectively.

C'mon, lets be realistic here- Since when has the English version of DBZ ever made any real, concrete attempts at being like the Japanese version? It's not that you shouldn't complain- if the voice sucks, it sucks. But just think about it for a second ^^;

Clearly, you haven't heard dub Janemba's 1st form voice. It makes Dave Ward's Roshi look fantastic (and he's terrible as Roshi). :shock:

I haven't, but that's not what I'm trying to say. You said "rather than ... present in the Japanese version.", but we all know that apart from the basic storyline, sound effects (but not with GT), and key character traits, the Japanese version is basically thrown out the window as far as the dub is concerned.

This doesn't stop the voice from sucking, I agree, but you've got to think about it a bit more, that's all. :)

It was. FUNi's got a lot of projects. To release every single thing they've done on the same day would give them nothing to promote later. When was the "10 most coolest DBZ battles ever" thingy released? In movie 9? Anyway, we see Janemba vs Goku as listed and it's already dubbed.

Like I said in one of my above posts, November 2004, in the Goku Jr. special release, "A Hero's Legacy".

Thread glitch: it never showed me a second page was available. As it is, everybody's avatars are red Xs.
