Never owned a pet, thanks mom and dad. But if I got a cat or something, it's getting Upa. Cute ass name.
Or Colonel Silver if it likes to play fight.

Re: Name Your Kids/Pets After DB Characters
I once read on the newspaper there was a child named Kai oh here's the article and from The Walking Dead there's Lauren Cohan who's name is almost identical to Gohan (yeah sure the co and go do sure differently).
Aside this, I don't remember meeting anyone named after DB characters/titles.

I don't think that was supposed to be her real name. Unless all those guys really were named Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, etc.Violet?

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Re: Name Your Kids/Pets After DB Characters
I actually raised this question a while back, thinking that maybe, just maybe, they were army given code names or something. There's nothing to really suggest it apparently, but it does seem pretty random that Red's best subordinates that he would give higher positions in the army, would all happen to have color based names.RandomGuy96 wrote:I don't think that was supposed to be her real name. Yeah, but it would also seem weird that most of Goku's friends are named after edible things even if they aren't related, like Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, Puar, Oolong, Kuririn... even Lunch.

Would only do that for pets. For kids it would be awkward.

It wouldn't be my first choice, especially if we live in a world where non-Christian/Eurocentric names reduce your job options. But in a what-if little scenario, I would. Just not "Gohan" but more of the obscure passible names like Bojack, Burdock or Zangya.

Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I don't think I would name my Son Gohan if I had one, but I would totally buy a cosplay costume of Gohan as a little kid and make him wear it lol

Re: Name Your Kids/Pets After DB Characters
I haven't met one girl yet that likes dragon ball. With that luck no way my future wife would agree with a dragonball name haha. But it would be a lot of better than a direction... North West..
