My younger cousins were introduced to DB through Nicktoons as well! Now they're watching DB abridged!

I got into it a bit before Kai started, I became a fan in 2007.

In 2006 Youtube was new and I'd watched the first season of Pokemon out of nostalgia and when I finished it I wanted to watch another anime (Pokemon was my first anime) and the only one I knew of was DBZ which I'd seen a few episodes of years before when I was 9. It was in the middle of the SSJ Goku and Frieza fight and I was enjoying it but then I missed the key episode where Frieza got cut in half so I never bothered watching anymore.

I went with watching the original DB first but I stopped after a few episodes because it was childish and dated so skipped ahead to DBZ and got into it instantly. It got me all into this whole anime/manga fandom.

Hey there! Welcome to the site! Always glad to meet a new face!

I'm one of those ancient fogies that started watching DBZ when the Ocean Dub premiered on Toonami back in 1998 (I was either 9 or 10 when it started, depending on when it started in the year). Since it ran all week, it must have aired the same 53 or whatever it was episodes like five times before the Funi Dub cast took over (it felt like an eternal wait for new episodes, I remember that much).

Despite the nostalgia I have for the old, Kai's dub is still my favorite. No amount of nostalgia could make me not appreciate that voices I liked got better as actors and got a better script with better music (I was starting to drift towards the Japanese version before Kai came out...it sits in second for me now, just a little too late to fully convert me from my love of some of the English cast *the old dub quality is poor, which was why I started to drift, but Funi finally gave me what I wanted*).

While I'll always appreciate the older dubs for making me a fan, I appreciate that Kai gives me the cast I like (with some improvements) with the skill I wanted, and the respect we deserve in terms of translation.

It's all good.

Eh, nope. I've been into the series roughly as long as you've been alive, which is kind of terrifying, to be honest, haha. Anyway, welcome!

It's good to see there's a whole new generation of fans through Kai/Battle of Gods as well as Youtube and all that stuff. I've really been an on and off fan for as long as i can remember. I think i must of started watching DBZ sometime in the late 90s/very early 2000s when i was still a toddler (i was born in 97). When i was young i was really into DBZ, Pokemon, Yugioh, Power Rangers and all those other Japanese fad franchises like most early 2000s kids. The first i saw of the show must of been some old Saban era episode on morning television, although me and my older brother eventually started collecting the Funi VHS/DVD singles and movies. Ever since the mid 2000s i've been in and out of DB.

Kai was the first time I'd ever seen up to the Cell saga in full, in any format. I'd skimmed around and seen some episodes back in the day through VHS tapes and recordings. But my first experience that I can remember was the Ocean Dragon Ball episodes 1 - 13.
Favorite anime -
Mob Psycho 100
Yu Yu Hakusho

Favorite movies -
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Zack Snyder's Justice League
