Is Goku an idiot, or just naive?

A bit of both I'd say. It all comes down to what you base intelligence off of. Obviously he isn't academically gifted but he sure is when it comes to martial arts, tactics and training. As for making judgements in the Boo arc, he does come off as more of an idiot than naive.
