MarcFBR, you raise some excellent points about that story. Your explanation seems to make a bit more sense, but I could see a mixture of both making up a more complete picture. I'm mostly just waxing nostalgia for "my" DBZ, though. Don't mind me.

So Saban would have been out?

If it's true that FUNimation wanted to continue with Pioneer producing, then that really annoys me because those movies are still the highest quality in terms of English Dragon Ball. FUNimation messed around just as much (minus editing down episodes). While we did get uncut, and Japanese audio, I am sure Pioneer would have fought for the same (since they were available on DVD and VHS as well).

Now I wonder if we could have gotten great voice acting, Japanese background music and great scrips? It does kinda match up to one interveiw I recall reading from 1997-8ish era (I forget who said it) that there were talks using the ocean cast and re-dubbing the 1st 2 seasons uncut

Also it's kinda messed up ratting out fansubbers and then suggesting Stevens, even if he was or wasnt fansubbing at the time.
