#NewRules According to Modern Toriyama
Re: #NewRules According to New Akira
*Points to avatar*. I have a new favorite Gokû form thanks to #newrules.
With F, I'm gonna hold out for that detailed summary later this month.
Only things I really liked about Minus were the design used for Gine, and the money shot of child!Kakarrotto staring out through the pod's porthole with the saddest lost expression on his face.
BOG I really enjoyed desu. I would've liked to have had more talented animation on it, but that's not related to Toriyama at all.

Would it have been such a crazy request? Personally them saying "Akira Toriyama gives you the epic tale of Bardock in this 40 page special chapter! Purchase it with Jaco now!" would get them a lot more hyped to buy Jaco rather than it just being a skeleton chapter with barely any meat to it. He clearly didn't feel the need to even ask and I doubt he cared enough about it for the idea to even cross his mind to ask for more space.Lord Beerus wrote:Do you think if Shueisha were more lenient, they would have given Toriyama more page to work with? Because I think a good story could have been told if Dragon Ball Minus got at least 25 pages.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:If he REALLY wanted to make it longer, they probably would have let him. Realistically though, Shueisha likely had an ideal number of pages for the volume so that they would only have to spend so much on the printing and what they would have to charge for the releases, and he was asked to fit the extra chapter within that space.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

That's why I think an anime adaption (40-50 minutes), written by Toriyama, could be really good. Perhaps even better than the original Bardock TV special, if Toriyama really tried.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Agree'd. No. It 'smore like Shueisha can order Toriyama to do whatever they please whenever Toriyama is publishing his work in a property that Shueisha owns. Toriyama may be a legend but that won't stop him being told what to do, especially by a company as powerful as Shueisha.ekrolo2 wrote:Would it have been such a crazy request? I understand the whole respect aspect, I really do, but if it hasn't been made clear, I created this thread using the name "New Akira" with a brand of memetic humor behind it. I'm happy Toriyama is back working on the series. I'm even happier that he seems to be enjoying it.

Re: #NewRules According to New Akira
Who says Minus can be tragic and serious? In both the TV special and Minus, Bardock foreshadowed, not only his own death, but death of the Saiyan race. Hell, the events of the TV special can still take place after the events of the DB-. Just cut out any scene of baby Goku, throw in some scenes of Gine and your set.fadeddreams5 wrote:How? I mean, does "serious and tragic" seem like something modern Toriyama would ever create? If he makes a 50 minute animated Minus adaptation, I can't see it having the same sort of tone as the original special. I mean, maybe the guy can surprise me, but it'd probably be light-hearted with action attached (F tone at most).Lord Beerus wrote:Who says Minus can be tragic and serious? Bardock eating in the same manner as Goku, Ginyu Force dancing for half of this, and Frieza watching a movie or something, and in the end thinking: "How about destroying the Planet Vegeta, it should be a lot of fun" and then sending a little Death Ball which destroys Bardock, while him still eating and Ginyu Force still dancing.fadeddreams5 wrote: I mean, does "serious and tragic" seem like something modern Toriyama would ever create? Re: #NewRules According to New Akira
I'm pretty sure Saiyans were bored in staying in planet Vegeta for so long, they then decided to throw a party, incidentally, that was the day Freeza decides to destroy it. The only thing that affects hard me is not knowing why the other Saiyans didn't go with Bardock to face Freeza, was the party too good to leave it? Still, Bardock is greatly adored by many fellows, why only Bardock went to fight against Freeza?
Man, if it wasn't for Gine, I wouldn't care at all to that crappy chapter, holy shit.
So many things were left out... So many questions that certainly will remain without an answer.

Re: #NewRules According to New Akira
I was tempted to change the "Akira" in the thread title to "Toriyama," but first I wanted to understand if there was some deeper meaning to this particular phrasing. Maybe I'm an old fuddy duddy who's not hip to all the memes, but I just don't get what "New Akira" does that "New Toriyama" can't.NeoKING wrote:I understand the whole respect aspect, I really do, but if it hasn't been made clear, I created this thread using the name "New Akira" with a brand of memetic humor behind it. I also just generally want to complain that I don't understand why so many people in the Dragon Ball fandom are prone to calling him "Akira" or "AT," when it's far more common to refer to creators/writers/directors by their surnames. Both for Japanese (Oda, Kishimoto, Tomino, Miyazaki, Miyamoto, Kojima...) and Western (Kirby, Whedon, Abrams, Rowling, Spielberg, Tolkien...) creators. It's not like there are tons of other famous Toriyamas out there; the only other one I can think of is Motomu Toriyama from the Final Fantasy franchise, but he's hardly on the same level, and I don't think anyone will confuse the two on a DB forum of all places. Meanwhile "Akira" is a very common given name, and also the title of a very well known anime movie (and the manga series that it was based on).

Yeah imagine if they add some crazy pink monkey and call it SSJ4? In a series so bad that most of the fans hate and don't care. What you call pink monkey, some of us call what Super Saiyan logically (mostly) should've looked like instead of a random golden hair transformation that just spikes up as it gets upgraded.GeeRod wrote:Yeah imagine if they add some crazy pink monkey and call it SSJ4? Because in the ''Dragon Ball logic'' is that a SSJ is someone with blonde spiky hair. If you want to go against what the author says and the series says, well that's your problem.ekrolo2 wrote:What you call pink monkey, some of us call what Super Saiyan logically (mostly) should've looked like instead of a random golden hair transformation that just spikes up as it gets upgraded.GeeRod wrote:Yeah imagine if they add some crazy pink monkey and call it SSJ4?
