Re: Martial Arts Preferences? Old School or New?
Old school all the way!
I love almost all of the original Dragonball fights. I also love Master Roshi's training of Goku and Krillin.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Old school, the DBZ standard of punch/energy blast over and over gets repetitive after a while, the beginning of the series had more variety.

They exhausted all the collateral damage possible waaaaaay back when Vegeta threatened to blow up the Earth with the Galic Gun. Everything since has been spinning its wheels while claiming to be MORE POWERFUL THAN EVER
Even technique barely works anymore - the famous One Inch Punch completely falls flat when characters have regularly been finger flicking since OG Dragonball, or hell, did similar punches on the punch machine before the 25th Budokai.

Even though Freeza had lost most of his power, I don't think a finger flick would be nearly as effective in that situation.Rocketman wrote:They exhausted all the collateral damage possible waaaaaay back when Vegeta threatened to blow up the Earth with the Galic Gun. Well, I mean in the real world what's amazing about the One Inch Punch is that somebody can put so much power into a small move. But in DB, it's regular as shit.Polyphase Avatron wrote:Even though Freeza had lost most of his power, I don't think a finger flick would be nearly as effective in that situation.

The martial arts shown in Resurrection 'F' is the most legitimate martial arts choreography I've seen in anything Dragon Ball related. You can't really categorize it with anything else. It's certainly a different style than DBZ movies 1-3 so a preference can still be had, though.NeoKING wrote:Which kind of fight scenes do you prefer? The supernatural Jackie Chan-like fighting of DBZ movies 1-3 or the martial arts seen in the BoG/RoF? No in-betweens, so no Z anime series/GT.
Personally, I think I'd go with the old school. It's like every thing was thought of to the slightest tee. I'm watching movie 2 as I type this, and just look at the way Goku and Piccolo fight. Even their stances are detailed. BoG and RoF did impress me fight-wise, especially RoF when it came to action, though.
That said, I prefer the newest stuff. Before 'F' there's no way you could've convinced me that there was anything better than DBZ movies 1-3 in terms of the martial arts.

Yeah, martial arts in the new movie seem legit. If they continue like that in Super, i honestly believe Jackie Chuns epicness can truly be replaced, he can finally pass the torch to the new generations and be proud of them, something he couldnt really be in most of the Z. Dat one inch punch thooo !!!Kendamu wrote:The martial arts shown in Resurrection 'F' is the most legitimate martial arts choreography I've seen in anything Dragon Ball related.
