Did you actually expect English subs on a JAPANESE DVD? >_> It was blatantly obvious these wouldn't have English subs and never would when the Dragon Boxes didn't contain them. :P Toei is doing whatever they can to make us "round-eyes" jealous of their DVD releases. XP
It's just probably because they can't be bothered to, mainly, I doubt they have any hatred towards us round eyed types. :lol:

If anything it would be a very good way for the Japanese people that can't speak (or are learning) English to pick up on our language, and there would be the option to remove them, so it's would have probably even boosted the sales in Japan. Possibly, who knows.

Same company's responsible for pulling EVERYONE'S license to the Sailor Moon franchise around the globe, only it was the other way around. They didn't want anyone resorting to the anime DVDs since they were going for marketing the live action series. They wouldn't even let Geneon release sub-only versions of the final series. o_O;

If anything, it's mainly Toei's way of being their usual greedy selves. :P

I think the Sailor Moon thing is linked into an argument with the creator, I'm not an SM fan but it comes up a lot on fan dub forums. It's still liscened in Dic form in the UK though if you had the urge to watch that :P

Subbing is an expensive process each ep ha to be translated and timed and I think companies like FUNi wouldn't be happy about Toei putting out a direct rival. It's just a shame FUNi don't actually talk to Toei properly, I mean it wouldn't have hurt to delay the ultimate editions and use the new masters?

Though I'd hardly call TOEI greedy they seemed to accidently sell the UK DBZ rights, and those DVDs are nothing short of atrocious.

They are, though. Toei are some of the most difficult folk to deal with when it comes to licensing. THey're continualy under the impression that older, popular titles from the 80's can still break even in the US in 2000 and won't consider it any other way. Getting their Dragonbox masters would also be nigh on impossible. FUNimation aren't also greatly concerned with a sub only version of DBZ outdoing their UU discs because the UU version is mostly for dub fans which make up the majority of their audience.

Toei don't include English subs because there'd be no point- It's a Japanese release aimed at a Japanese market, and if the Japanese market wants to learn English, it knows better than to learn it through watching Anime like DBZ.

It's just about the same, only released on various discs with different menus.

As for the Dragon Boxes, we couldn't tell you. Especially since if we all knew, we'd have all bought 'em out before you. :P

The dragonboxes, being limited, pre-order only releases were made to a specific quantity years back, making even second hand copies now horrendously expensive. Your best bet would be Yahoo! Japan auctions through a service such as Rinkya, but even then they're scarse and the fees and what not would set you back much further than you'd anticipate. Just get the singles.

You can choose cheaper shipping options. Besides, you have to take into account the area and market they're released in before you say words such as "reasonable".

Some sellers offer them for around 2,500 yen each, which is decent. Japanese used goods generally tend to be very good, if not near new looking. Your best bet is to email those sellers and ask if they will ship them to you. However, you have to take into account that shipping from Japan can be very costly.

You've either got Amazon.co.jp or CDJapan. You're much better off with Amazon. At least you get discounts off of the new DVDs and additional discounts if you've bought things from them before. CDJapan has you pay full retail price with shipping, though gets your product to you faster.

Shipping to outside of any country is gonna cost you a pretty penny, no matter how you slice it. o_O

There is an option to change the account summary section into English, as opposed to Japanese. That way you're allowed to import and know what exactly you're doing.

There are a few programs, such as DVDgenie or DVD Region Free. You may or may not need cracks for them, but it's something you'll have to discover for yourself. Definantly, if you can, preorder the discs, as they're knocked to around 2900 per unit. As for ordering, you can have the order pages in English, and eventually find international order forms etc.

Also, after years and years, Dragonboxes second hand have gone down in price.
