I have a hard time re watching Boo and the beginning of DB until the first tournament starts.
And my favorite Z arcs are Freeza and Android/Cell.

Why do people not like the first 13 episode Pilaf saga? Its absolutely hilarious and the humor was at its best. I'm surprised, I thought that arc was loved.
Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
I couldn't tell you. I love it; it's what got a former girlfriend into the series as well (she saw an early episode with me and watched the series through to the end). It's largely very funny.precita wrote:Why do people not like the first 13 episode Pilaf saga? Its absolutely hilarious and the humor was at its best. I'm surprised, I thought that arc was loved.

Former girlfriend? Is she the same one who you said was your fiance who was watching the series with you? If so, sorry it didn't work out for you, man.Cipher wrote:I couldn't tell you. As for Pilaf in general I always found them hilarious. I loved them at the start of the King Piccolo saga too. I think that was one of the best handling of them since the beginning.

Haha, yeah. I guess there's a way to trace that particular aspect of my life over my posting history here; a little weird to think about. At any rate, it was for the absolute best and all very mutual, so no worries; still good friends. Haven't wound up going through the series with anyone since (mostly for time), so that's still my best new-viewer point of reference.precita wrote:Former girlfriend? Letting them usher in the first very serious supervillain works quite well; agreed. As for Pilaf in general I always found them hilarious. I loved them at the start of the King Piccolo saga too. I think that was one of the best handling of them since the beginning.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
The Super 17 arc is the dirt fucking worst. Just a pointless and redundant arc and an amalgamation of everything wrong of GT.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
Adding on to my previous post, the F arc will probably be the worst arc in the entire series (maybe barring GT) when it airs, unless Super makes some major changes.

Just for the love of God show me Freeza training. That alone will make the arc tolerable for me.Doctor. wrote:Adding on to my previous post, the F arc will probably be the worst arc in the entire series (maybe barring GT) when it airs, unless Super makes some major changes.

Don't be so negative Doctor, there's statistically no way for Super F to be as bad as the movie. And no I'm not being sarcastic, the movie is too s*it to ever be replicated again.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Yea, I know. I came into Super expecting a worse BoG but a better F.ekrolo2 wrote:Don't be so negative Doctor, there's statistically no way for Super F to be as bad as the movie. And no I'm not being sarcastic, the movie is too s*it to ever be replicated again.
It just that a better F doesn't mean much.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
In a perfect world and with a team with a radically different view, the story of F could be amazing but at this point all we can really hope for is some explanations to be provided and at least some more story to be added into the Super version. Having Freeza destroy Earth and Goku & Vegeta seriously ponder about their own flaws alone would greatly help the re-telling.Doctor. wrote:Yea, I know. Bullza wrote:If we're including then GT then the Baby saga was easily the worst. Pan made the saga insufferable. There were those stupid dancing brothers and so much other garbage. The Super 17 saga was a hell of a lot better than that.
Baby's saga was after the dragonball arc with the para para brothers dancing and the worms and other bad ideas.

My theory is you have to like Goku to like the Red Ribbon arc, and the general landscape of DB fandom for a good, long while now has been "Goku is an idiot and a terrible father." He's not viewed in the kindest of lights so I suppose it would make sense these same fans wouldn't care about his character growth.Son Edo wrote:I want to defend the RRA saga but this thread doesn't seem appropriate to do that.

The entire Red Ribbon arc.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I think the Red Ribbon arc is a great deal of fun in the manga.B wrote:My theory is you have to like Goku to like the Red Ribbon arc, and the general landscape of DB fandom for a good, long while now has been "Goku is an idiot and a terrible father." It's still fun at points in the anime -- and the adaptation gives us one of the all-time greatest scenes of Tao Pai Pai going around town and boiling an egg in his own bathwater -- but it also drags at times, and in such a humor-focused arc that neuters a lot of the joy.
I don't know why you have to think Goku is a good person to enjoy him as a character or like tracking his arc. At any rate, most of his flaws come into play as he grows older and more powerful (as he makes everyone around him better, he's perhaps the only character in the series to grow worse). At the time of the Red Ribbon Army arc, though, he's a pretty likable character on every level.
Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
The only slow parts of the Red Ribbon army saga is the muscle tower fights against Major Mettalitron and Buyon...who took up an entire episode. The fights were way too dull and drawn out in the anime and should have been 10 minutes at most.
Other than that while the Red Ribbon army saga was LONG, they made each segment different with a different villain commander and Goku doing different things. Goku on his own against Silver, Muscle Tower, General Blue in the underground pirate base, Penguin village, Mercenary Tao at the base of Korin's tower, the attack on the base and Black himself, etc.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
That's not it. The General Silver and Blue material are very quick in the manga but become rather interminable in the anime. Tao Pai Pai to the end of the arc is also kind of a rush in the manga, but considerably stretched out in the show (which I mind less because the Tao Pai Pai filler is amazing). The Blue arc really suffers for it, and the Silver arc really only benefits from its added material when you have the Pilaf hi-jinks at the beginning.precita wrote:The only slow parts of the Red Ribbon army saga is the muscle tower fights against Major Mettalitron and Buyon...who took up an entire episode. But the point is it's quite padded throughout.
The Haski stuff is great, though. Really great.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
Sorry for bumping this, but the Cell Arc is my least favorite arc, but i do like and enjoy all of Dragon Ball. The Red Ribbon Army Arc is criminally underrated, its such a shame.
Favorite to least favorite (for me) : Freeza, Saiyan, 23rd TB, 22nd, RRA, Daimao, 21st, The Hunt for DBs, Boo, Cell.

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
I like almost all of them really. If it counts, definitely the 'F' arc from Super. The movie wasn't that good at all and even though the Super arc had a little bit of a better story, it isn't improved enough for me to get over how ugly it was and how I still hate the story in general. It was longer than the movie too, so we had to sit through more of it. I also hate the Super 17 arc.
In the original manga series? I actually don't really know, I like 'em all. My least favorite arc in the original canon would probably have to be the 2nd half of the Boo arc, after Vegeta blows himself up. It isn't bad, but other than Vegetto being awesome and the final battle with Pure Boo, I just didn't like it as much as everything else. The 1st half was pretty fun.
