Why are people against Cell being solar system buster?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

It was a decent feat, but they didn't destroy the whole universe at full power. They destroy a planet and some asteroids, but nothing too amazing. They still haven't reach Infinity Gauntlet level of power or anything.

El Manga Legendario describes Cell as having enough power to destroy the solar system.

Full English Context

Dragon Ball - Summary of chapters 413 to 420.
The end of the Cell games.
Cell's resurrection and the last clash with Gohan.

Although Goku had taken Cell a bit before he exploded, the android regenerated and returned after mastering Goku's shunkanido (Instant Transmission). Vegeta tried to attack and Gohan had to protect him. The android accumulated enough energy to destroy the whole Solar System and shot a powerful Kamehame-ha wave. Instantly, Gohan started listening the voice of his father from the other world.

A Cell with more power than never shots a Kamehame-ha wave with all his strength. With his left arm disabled and with less than half his energy, Gohan thought he couldn't make it, but...

This basically confirms that Cell could destroy the Solar System. Also a guidebook can't lie, so yeah.
Dragon Ball GT is stronger than Dragon Ball Super

Lord Beerus wrote:I'll just repeat my definite view on this opinion:

If Toriyama writes for Cell to believe he is strong enough to destroy the Solar System in one blast, he can damn well do it. There have been crazier feats thrown around in Dragon Ball which have later turned out to be true. But Toriyama doesn't really focus so much on attention to detail, so there's every chance that Cell statement was hyperbole for the sole purpose of scaring the shit out of the cast.
This. It's never contradicted, if the author writes that he can do it, than he can do it. Case closed.

A solar system buster/destroyer is one who has destroyed a solar system. Cell hasn't destroyed a solar system so he is not a solar system buster. Can he destroy one? Sure why not, but the most cell has destroyed was a tiny planet.

I don't think it's so much that people are against Cell being able to do it. I think it's more of the fact that the "Solar System" isn't a singular physical object like a planet is. What the hell does it even mean to destroy the Solar System? The fact that it's a difficult feat to really quantify kind of devalues it, whether it's true or not. Cell, nor Toriyama, nor any guidebook, has spelled out what this is supposed to mean.

Is he destroying the Sun, and letting everything die as a result? Or would destroying the sun count as destroying most of the mass contained in the solar system? Would he fire the blast at the sun, and cause a huge explosion?

Does he mean that, if he were far outside of the Solar System, that he would be able to unleash a blast that would utterly envelop it, including the full diameter of the farthest planet's explosion? Is he talking about firing a huge blast that could spiral outward, and go on for so long that eventually it would reach the outwermost extent of the farthest planet's orbital route?

Hell, does Pluto factor into this? It was still considered a planet when Toriyama wrote the Cell Games, right? It would logically extend the diameter of this blast, thus changing the nature of the feat, depending on how we're defining the solar system today versus how it would have been defined back in the mid 90's.

Goku's punches with Beerus seem like it would have destroy the universe with a chain reaction where it can destroy it over time, not raw power. DBZ characters are still below cosmic begins from Marvel or god like characters such as Unicron and Primus.
That's from a bad sub, nothing is said about it being "over time" in the original. Besides, Beerus afterwards uses his raw power to cancel the universe destroying wave.

Well it obviously was "over time" as it didn't happen instantly. The dispute seems to be how much time, precisely.

There was no chain reaction, it required the cumulative force of three clashes between the two in order to destroy the whole universe. It didn't happen instantly because they can only do one clash at a time, regardless of their power Goku is still just one single being, and the same goes for Beerus.

By that logic, Goku, even up to the events of the Buu Saga, isn't even a planet buster. If the requirement is that they have to have actually destroyed said object to be classified as a "buster", then Goku wouldn't even qualify as a planet buster.

When people refer to someone as an "X Buster", it's in regards to what they're capable of destroying, not what they actually have destroyed.

So by that logic Roshi´s kamehameha >>> Bu saga Goku´s kamehameha ?
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

I still don't understand why Kid Buu's death ball only destroy the Earth if it's much stronger then Cell's attack? Won't Buu's attack destroy more then the just the Earth if it was that powerful? Kid Buu was going to destroy everything in his path.

Because the plot says so. Honestly, try to rationalize this stuff all you want, but sometimes that's the only answer.

You were talking about Unicron before, it's the same reason why he's the size of a planet in one scene and the size of a skyscraper in the next scene.

Nah you're obviously a biased downplayer. You made it clear in another thread that Beerus and Goku being this powerful upsets you.

The two characters are blatantly multi-galaxy/universe level, the show beats you over the head with this, you can't deny it.

Not necessarily. Depending on how the narrative of the story goes, doing something like that could be more impressive than destroying the solar system or less impressive. There's no real-world equivalent to compare it to.

An in-universe explanation could be that Kid Buu is more efficient than we think, and used only enough power to destroy the Earth.

I always understand them as concentrated attacks, a la Saint Seiya.

Cells attack was stopped by Gohan.Vegetas attack was stopped by Goku.

There is no actual proof that Kid Buu wanted to destroy the solar system problaby just earth.

Dude, they ripped a hole in the dimension by screaming. Also, it was shown that only SSJ3 tier characters can do something like that.

People are against Cell's solar system busting because it was contradicted in canon by Kid Buu only destroying several hundreds of planets, meaning that Kid Buu cannot even destroy stars, while apparently Super Perfect Cell can destroy solar systems.
