Well, my honest opinion is that Funimation should redub the entirety of DBZ with faithful script like Kai.

But why? We have Kai and Kai is consider to be a better version of DBZ since the pacing moves much faster since these is much less filler in it. Not to mention most of the filler in DBZ hardly adds anything to the plot in my opinion. It's barely better then the filler in Naruto and Bleach in my opinion.

I dunno, because my default JP versions are both DBZ and Kai and I am not screwed over with tons of releases with bad dub.Hellspawn28 wrote:But why? My post wasn't meant negatively by the way, it's just my point of view. Also, I do prefer the DBZ as it is original and even if there is filler, I am not suffering with weird newly drawn scenes, randomly tossed in previous BGM after they've fired Yamamoto, weird videogame beepy stuff in Buu arc with green tint and just cropped + two horrible openings replacing iconic Chala Head Chala and We Gotta Power.
I've just thought that American fans deserve the definitive version of the series in english. The claim that: ''We have Kai'' sounds pretty sad to me as ''Yeah, at least we have the Kai, otherwise we'll have to endure it with subtitles''
as most fans are saying this over the internet.

Goku's '99 voice doesn't sound as jarringly different as Chris Sabat's original Vegeta/Piccolo and Sonny Straight's Krillin did though.ABED wrote:The patchwork dub of Z is awful and off putting. Even if Sabat's work had improved a lot over the years, it was weird hearing 07 Vegeta interact with 99 Goku.
Sean Schemmel definitely has been emotion and tone in his voice nowadays, but the actual voice isn't all too different.

I know FUNi can be idiotic sometimes but this would be financial suicide, there is no point. There will be no market for this at all. People who have Kai are not going to go out and buy Z again, and the people who have Z are not going to buy Z again because their Toonami nostalgia will be gone.MCDaveG wrote:Well, my honest opinion is that Funimation should redub the entirety of DBZ with faithful script like Kai.
It absolutely is, go watch BoG or Resurrection "F" and the watch S3 right after. The difference in the voice is huge, I couldn't listen to it at all had to switch over to the JPN track.precita wrote:Goku's '99 voice doesn't sound as jarringly different as Chris Sabat's original Vegeta/Piccolo and Sonny Straight's Krillin did though.ABED wrote:The patchwork dub of Z is awful and off putting. But they already have their Toonami dub nostalgia with the previous DVD sets.
Why not release a new DVD set with Chris Ayres as Freeza? I mean we know that they would never spend the time/money to redub all of DBZ, but re-doing a few voices is possible.

For that, I refer back to reason #1 that I mentioned in my first post...most of the people who are buying DBZ for the dub do not want it changed. Even the little re-dubbing that was done was greeted with a mixed reception, with some fans actually preferring Sabat's Drummond impression voice. I don't, and I'm frankly surprised that other people do, and even Chris Sabat has said that hates his Drummond impression voice...but still, that's what we're dealing with. People buy dub-centered DBZ products for nostalgia's sake, and FUNimation is clearly aware of this based on their marketing.precita wrote:But they already have their Toonami dub nostalgia with the previous DVD sets.

Would a re-dubbed Freeza arc sell? It'd sell something, sure, and I'd pick it up in a heartbeat, as would several others, not to mention the people who will buy products just because it has "Dragon Ball Z" in its title somewhere. There's not nearly enough potential purchasers, though, for FUNimation to make a return on such an investment. Like Baggie_Saiyan said, it would be financial suicide, even if the re-dubbing was confined to just one arc. If money were no object, I'd urge them to do it, but obviously money is a concern. Enough anime dubbing/distribution companies have gone out of business, we don't need another one gone.
And again, if Freeza were to be re-dubbed, that would entail more than just re-dubbing Freeza. That means re-dubbing other characters (for which some of the original voice actors are not available), re-writing, re-directing, bringing in an audio engineer, mixing the new recordings, releasing a new home video series...it's just not financially practical.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

No. Chris Ayres deserves better than the God-awful lines that Linda Young had to read out.

I really don't think there would be any point in doing that. The Z dub ended a long time ago, it should just be left as it is.

Re: Should Chris Ayres redub Freeza in DBZ?
Don't think it's needed. Aside from money reasons and folks having bought what they wanted, going back to redo with a new actor doesn't make folks want to buy it new again. For example, knew some folks who had the first Totoro dvd Fox released say they weren't interested in getting it again with Disney's, even if wanted it in Japanese. And does anyone out there want "Ghost in a Shell" re-released with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Richard Epcar?
Re: Should Chris Ayres redub Freeza in DBZ?
Nah. In general, I think we're long past the point where a redub of DBZ is needed or even worthwhile. Kai and its good dub have made it obsolete.
What I would like to see and believe desperately need to be re-dubbed, however, are the Z movies and TV specials. Let me get my Ayres-Freeza fix in the Bardock special, Movie 5, and Movie 12.

If they ever did that, they should just redub the Bardock special in its entirety. That particular dub was probably one of the worst they have ever done.Kaboom wrote:Nah. Linda Young is bad and thankfully shes done but i dont really think that would be hair to the fans and plus I think other voices need fixing before hers.

Such as? Anyone who comes close to being as big of a character as Freeza?Ree wrote:Linda Young is bad and thankfully shes done but i dont really think that would be hair to the fans and plus I think other voices need fixing before hers.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I think he means redub the other Season 3 performances? Sean Schemmel should of re-done his old 1999 Goku voice.
Re: Should Chris Ayres redub Freeza in DBZ?
Vegeta is pretty bad in season 3 and Remastered and i honestly think its one of the worst Funimation dub voices

Re: Should Chris Ayres redub Freeza in DBZ?
No. As much as I like Chris Ayres, I don't see much point in this. I mean, I would love to see the whole of Z dubbed with the same quality of writing and voice acting as Kai but as they have already done Kai it's pretty pointless and it would be a lot of work for yet another re-release of a series the majority of fans already own in some format. If it ever happened it would be a re-dub of the entire series. It would be ridiculous of them to go back and re-dub Freezas lines with Ayres and re-release the series. That would make zero sense.

Agreed, although I think a lot of that is down to Sabat being told to do an impression of Drummond, though he's still preferable to Young's Freeza.Ree wrote:Vegeta is pretty bad in season 3 and Remastered and i honestly think its one of the worst Funimation dub voices

Re: Should Chris Ayres redub Freeza in DBZ?
I thought Chris Sabat re-recorded his Season 3 Vegeta after the redub? So he has his 2005 era Vegeta voice in the Namek saga now.
