I don't know much about small artist but the ones who work on the popular titles such as Batman have a month between each issue and don't have to write it while Oda for example has to draw and write an issue every week so artists who work for Dc&Marvel don't have it as hard as him.
You never read stuff from the 60s and 70s from artists like Jack Kirby? Prodigious amount of material, all plotted out in his head before putting pencil to paper. He might have been working on several titles at once as well as things like storyboarding or character design for cartoons, advertising pieces, etc. I always wonder how he got time to live. Tezuka was much the same, a total workaholic. Thousands and thousands of pages...

Didn't Toriyama once say that he actually used to relax for four days of the week and then cram EVERYTHING into the final three days before the deadline? Or was that another author?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I think that was Toriyama. I remember reading one of his interviews, and I can't remember which one, where he stated he spent most of his time in the week when he was mangaka designing scale models, something he loves doing, and then spent the last few days writing and drawing Dragon Ball.

And for the first time ever, he failed the entire WSJ year (December 2014 - November 2015).
Always breaking records. DC can't come fast enough.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
