Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
Chuquita wrote:I think blue is it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's more. What color could they use though?
Red/magenta - no, because ssjg
Orange - no too close to red
Yellow - no because ssj
Green - no because Brolli
Blue - no because blueper
Indigo - not bright enough a color imo
Violet - no because Beerus already cornered the market on violet
I really think blueper might be it.
When in doubt, just turn to white/silver/gray.
White is possible, but I keep thinking of how regular ssj always looked white in the manga because Toriyama didn't use screen-tones back then for shading. I dunno. I'm not against it, I'm just kinda disenchanted with the recolors right now. (Honestly I have been disappointed with the recolors since blueper replaced ssjg.)
*Goes to look up what the hottest fire color is.*
EDIT: Hottest flame color could be blue or white, depends on the circumstances and type of flame according to Wiki. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame

It'll happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they just recolor SSJ2 next. People will complain, and then suddenly it's cool after a while.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

Same goes for cyan tho, in Toriyama's drawings it should be white. And if he went for gray shading, that would overstep on magneta SSG. So frankly, only 3 colors can be used in manga and we're long past that already. Another reason why I always preferred SSJ4 design. You can't mistake it for base black-shade Goku/Vegeta. Even "golden" (equals white in manga form) SSJ4 would be unmisteakable. The recolors from BOG/ROF/Super weren't really designed with manga format in mind which is a shame
I doubt that we won't get at least one more transformation. I think a recolor of SS3 will be too predictable, so Toriyama will probably take a different direction this time.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I wish they'd taken the manga format into account with blueper. I mean, at least with ssjg it also changes the body build and the eye style. Blueper is a straight-up recolor of ssj1 that changes nothing about the physique and that makes it boring/uninteresting to draw. I was hoping they'd at least keep the eye style from ssjg because that was different with the pupils, but they didn't even keep that.
Blueper does make me appreciate ssj4 more, I definitely can say that.
SSGSS2 or SSBlue2 doesn't have to be another color. They could just give it the different hair style and keep the color like how SS, SS2, SS3 are the same color.

then turn into a Red and Blue SSJ 4?

Well there is yellow Oozaru too, so the color result should be the same as with yellow SSJ. And if the God Ki is applied to "brown/black" Oozaru, then the result should be the same as with brown/black Saiyan - red/magneta furr.
Like I said tho, blue/cyan Oozaru or SSJ4 would look awful. Cyan blue is very flashy color, it only works somehow when it's not dominant in design. Oozaru/SSJ4 have too much hair and furr for that to work
VegettoEX wrote:I don't think they can get away with it again by just changing the color of the hair and surrounding aura. Third time's not a charm here.
I really do think they've hit the saturation point again with transformations. It's going to require something entirely new for them to move forward, whether that be tactical or something else. Transformations aren't going to cut it, and while that does work against the marketing side of things, I definitely think they've hit the point where they can't just do another transformation, nevermind it being just another recolor.
I think that they will since Bandai can make more merchandise out of it. It's kinda hard to do a new original designs without recolors. SSj4 already took the humanoid Oozaru idea and I doubt they want to repeat the same idea over again.
I think if there's a new transformation it'll most likely just be and upgrade to the current SSJGSS. A color I would like to see though is maybe white hair, and instead of just a recolor they could use something similar to the SSJ4 hairstyle.

Toriyama seems to be using the fire pattern. That's why Blue was the next color.
According to Toriyama, this wasn't the reason for any of the colors. Seems to me like a coincidence that they are flame colors.

I don't feel new colours will be added, just ascensions of SSGSS.
From my point of view, SSJG is Goku's base god transformation, and SSGSS/SSJB is SSJ1. I feel we still have a SSGSS2/3 to come, which will essentially mirror the original SSJ2/3 forms.
Just a theory, or somewhat a belief.

Ι doubt we will see SSB2 & SSB3. Toriyama said that Goku will now focus on his base & SS forms (SSB is his new version of regular SS), and that he will abandon SS2 & SS3 because they consume ki. Since SSB doesn't give a x50 increase to his base like SS did, SSB2 & SSB3 will probably also give smaller than x2 & x4 increases respectively as well, so the ki consumption won't be worth the increases (like with SSG2 & SSG3). If we do see SSB2 & SSB3, I think it will be a single demonstration like with SSG2 & SSG3.

It definitley doesn't need anymore palette colour swaps. They were really pushing it with SSJB.
Any new form would need to be a design overall. You know Naruto's full cloak Chakra mode form? Where it turns his whole body yellow/gold and gives him a firey look. Something like that except so he looks like pure energy.
