Then the planned trilogy would have happened and we wouldn't have to wait 'who knows how long' for the next live action adaptation.

You can pull off good special effects with a small budget, but Dragon Ball is not one of them. The third Matrix pull off DBZ level of fights with a 150 million budget six years before DBE. With a 100 million budget now, they could pull it off now. Fox is still probably not going to do another Dragon Ball live action movie. I think most Hollywood studios would not want touch Dragon Ball for a long time given how bad DBE turn out. DBE pretty much ruin Dragon Ball's chance on becoming big in Hollywood.
