What´s definiton of childish and serious/not childish in DB?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

The entire series itself isn't deep so I think that makes it not serious though not necessarily childish in a negative sense. I'd use the term kid friendly where regardless of how dire things become it all works out. Even when things don't work out life is still presented as fine which is where the lack of seriousness comes in. Things aimed at kids or deemed "childish" can be serious...down right emotionally crippling (glares at Don Bluth) but how moments are handled if at all is how I decide the difference.

Like Goku's sacrifice in the Cell saga is sad as you see that Gohan still needs his father (even if it is Goku) but Z and Goku treat death like a vacation so whatevs then we just skip to Gohan as a teenager. So we have this serious emotional incident but it avoids showcasing the possible effects it had on the Son family once over. Head over to most "serious" of entries, Trunks' TV special, where we see a 180 in tone and content as it doesn't want to shy away from how bleak the affects (effects?) of the Android Apocalypse are. Both eventually end on a hopeful/good note that kids can accept but the former avoids delving into any possible tension or complexities to get to a "Everything is okay" conclusion which seems more lighthearted to me not negatively childish. Though maybe shallow is a better word? I don't know.

Anyways I'd say the first half of DB uses more humor to keep things light but not at the expense of its serious moments. While the second half tones down the humor but avoids tackling the actual consequences of its hyped up serious moments. I might have to come back to this as I know I'm being bias against Z since I feel death became too inconsequential that its hard to take threats seriously.

The entire series itself is childish and spends most its time being a parody of what most action/adventure oriented stories where are the time.
