Re: Was Toriyama possibly inspired by DBM?
Honestly at this point, I feel like no matter what Toriyama came up with it would be regarded as fan fiction or has been done before. The series ended almost 20 years ago (I believe). So after all this time I am sure just about every idea has been used in fan-fiction in one way or another. It'd be almost impossible at this point after such a long period of time for any idea to be "un-fanfictiony" in my opinion.

I'm not saying the ideas he has are bad or anything.generalred3 wrote:Honestly at this point, I feel like no matter what Toriyama came up with it would be regarded as fan fiction or has been done before. Just like what he's doing with Vegeta, since day one?!TheatreStyleKai wrote:I think you lost the right to call anything "shitty fanfiction" after Toriyama recolored Goku and Freeza and passed it off as new official designs.Kuririn Fan wrote:No, there's no way that he was inspired by shitty fanfiction.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I doubt Toriyama has ever read a fan-comic in his life. Hell, he barely reads his own manga except for special occasions. Besides, it's not like Dragon Ball Multiverse was the first fan-comic to take a spin on the multiverse theory. The concept itself is decades old and has been used extensively in all kinds of fiction such as TV shows, comics book and literature.

I mean, computers are so common, like having electricity. or a tv. if someone does not want a computer, ok.sangofe wrote:Nobody should tell others what they should have, or do with their lives.Haji wrote:everyone in a first world country should have a basic computer and internet.

Only in DBM's wet dreams. I wanted to write something different but it would not have had the same effect and would not fully reflect my thoughts. Maybe "they'd wish", that is a bit less harsh and still more or less says what I think.

He read his own manga for the first time (like a reader, i guess) with Kanzenban. That's awesome, haha, kanzenban ftw.Lord Beerus wrote:I doubt Toriyama has ever read a fan-comic in his life. Thinking that Toriyama was inspired by DBM gives DBM too much credit IMO. I've been reading DBM for many years, and I like it for what it is, but come on... if you describe Dragon Ball's plot in general terms, I bet you could connect it to many other fictional works.
I'm not even counting those who are convinced that he straight-up copied DBM

At this point we don't even know for sure if the 12 universes concept was Toriyama's idea. For all we know it might have been Watanbe who came up with the concept in his original draft for BoG.
