You know, after all these years of watching anime, whenever I see pedophilia in it I just shrug and go "oh dem japanese. Just as long as they never go near my kids if I ever have any".

I don't see what is weird about it at all.

Mai = A grown woman who never aged into an old old woman. Also her entire life was spent adventuring more or less so she maintained a youthful outlook on life.
Kid Trunks = A kid.
Future Trunks = An adult.


Mai has a crush on FT = Perfectly normal either way. I had a crush on my first grade teacher. So if she is a child its fine and if she is an older woman its fine.

FT is oblivious = He shows no interest in Mai beyond "Oh she is the counterpart to my Mai and its nice to see her again".

Kid Trunks has a crush on Mai = Normal because he's a kid and she has a kid body.

Mai doesn't like Kid Trunks = Normal. Even if she did it's not a huge issue. Like doesnt = sex. I mean Kid Trunks is very sweet and caring to her and on some level she probably thinks he is sweet...plus knows he grows up at least looking like FT.

Honestly, what makes me roll my eyes is that so many more people seem to be against Kid Mai X Future Trunks than against Kid Mai X Kid Trunks. Because here is the thing; "Kid" Mai isn't a kid. She looks like one but she is not one. So no mater how you slice it, the very implication of Kid Mai being interested in Kid Trunks is pedophilia, plain and simple. And pedohilia is a no-no.

Kid Mai X future Trunks on the other hand is NOT pedophilia. It may LOOK like pedophilia, but it is not. You can still be creeped out by it of course, but it seems to me that any remotely morally aware human sjould be able to see that it is miles better than the genuinly pedophilic relationship that a Kid Mai X Kid Trunks relationship would be.

What if Mai's brain also aged downward too? It's natural for people to have a sexual interest for people their age, so if Mai's brain aged downward with the rest of her body (since it is part of her body), then her liking Kid Trunks isn't pedophile at all.

Besides, this is still nothing to Oolong kidnapping a bunch of little girls so he can rape them. Or drugging Bulma so he can rape her. Or literally anything Master Roshi does haha.

Is it pedophilia though? Wouldn't the definition be someone over a certain age who likes someone under a certain age? Mai is physically a child...its hard to really explain due to the unique circumstances but here is a decent one.

A child who is a genius probably has the mental ability and state of a much older person. Would it be pedophilia for them to like someone their own physical age? I know it is slightly different but when physical bodies are the same we are talking about mental differences.

This. Stuff is obviously weird since its fiction so its difficult to really try to say stuff may or may not be what you think. But that being said while she may have retained her memories of her life up to this point either way, she still has reverted in her entirety into a child. That would include her brain. Its apart of her body. So its perfectly feasible to me to imagine that she is in all aspects a child who also has memories of her life before she reverted. Not that they were in any way mature to begin with even when they were adults, just look at the way they all act. They are children who act like children. Pretty good evidence to me.

I dunno, it just seems weird.

I get the sorts of tropes of secondary school kids having crushes on teachers and that and I know plenty of western shows have done that.

I even know Simpsons have done crushes on teenage heartthrobs for Lisa (corey hotline comes to mind) and full adult crushes i.e Mr Bergstrom. but we didn't get full blown imagination sequences of Lisa about to kiss him did we.

It never bothered me, especially not in a story full of genocide, and overall weirdness.

Also, in anime in general, no matter how old characters are, if they end up in young body, their mental age sort of stop to have any meaning - for instance characters which look like they are 12, but have lived for hundreds of years.

As for Mai herself, the current one, it always seemed to me, even before DB Movie 14 happened that she never really matured as woman, or a person.
