I think another factor is the characters looking old, even Vegeta. If they were going to turn Goku into a kid, I think it'd have went better if they turned the whole cast into kids. Kid Vegeta and Goku would have been a unique take. A 50 or whatever old Chi-Chi calling Kid Goku her husband is definately uh... Strange.Chuquita wrote:Some of GT's choices; turning Gokû into a child and then never turning him back, sidelining Vegeta for the most part until the final chunk of episodes, killing off Piccolo, writing Pan the way they wrote her instead of building off her Z characterization, separating Trunks and Goten; I think contributed to it not doing so well.
Of those, Super's only done one of them so far, and that's separating Trunks and Goten. I don't even know if they're only going to be apart this one arc or if Goten will reappear before the arc's over.

I agree. Kid Vegeta and kid Gokû would've had a lot more potential for fun. The whole first generation as kids would be entertaining with their own kids as the adults.Xeztin wrote:I think another factor is the characters looking old, even Vegeta. Re: Was GT actually cancelled?
I think GT is the reason why we never got a new series for a long time. Toei probably didn't want to do a new series without Toriyama and Toriyama not working on GT was one of the main reasons that fans didn't like GT. Toriyama wanted nothing to do with Dragon Ball after 1995 expect for art work for Dragon Ball Online.

I personally didn't mind this choice since Goku in GT is the most mature version of the character even when he's in his kid form but I can certainly understand why it bothered people.Captain Strawberry wrote:I think the bigger issue there isn't foreshadowing or any arc of him turning back.Chuquita wrote:Some of GT's choices; turning Gokû into a child
Bear with me, Goku turning into a kid sounds like a cool idea but only for a very short while.
There are no hints as far as I know of him turning back or no established goal.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I think they could have been scared, as in we just took this hot series and somehow we destroyed it with GT. Toei probably didn't even know where they went wrong and probably doesn't care to know. I just think after GT they were scared to take that chance again, despite the franchises future booms here and there. I do think even without Toriyama they would do fine this time around with Super because I think they now have the general idea of "What would Toriyama do?".Hellspawn28 wrote:I think GT is the reason why we never got a new series for a long time. I would like to think they would but something just reminds me about the Lizard Beerus and the Super Saiyan God with a cape we almost had and said yeah we need Toriyama's input. I can't even image that image of a lizard BeerusXeztin wrote:I think they could have been scared, as in we just took this hot series and somehow we destroyed it with GT. Re: Was GT actually cancelled?
After a decade on the air, and a few years of declining ratings and merchandise sales(not a huge drop but still) TOEI probably felt like the anime had run it's course. Honestly, they were right. It's a good thing they let it end on it's own terms rather than pulling the plug on it seeing how the ending is the best thing about GT.
Also, I remember reading that GT was supposed to end at the Baby arc but I don't remember the source. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this or is it bullshit?

Re: Was GT actually cancelled?
I think the Lizard thing wouldn't have been "too bad" but the cape thing on SSG would have been along the lines of the magical pants of SSJ4 again. I'm really hoping by now they are in Toriyama's head, even if just a little. They have 12 universes to play with here, the filler arcs haven't been too bad either because the Copy Vegeta one pretty much was foreshadowing the Black arc.THEGOKU wrote:I would like to think they would but something just reminds me about the Lizard Beerus and the Super Saiyan God with a cape we almost had and said yeah we need Toriyama's input. Re: Was GT actually cancelled?
I think that's just a fan rumor because Heroes Legacy air after the Bebi saga ended and that made fans think that GT would end there. Also the rumor of Final Bout being tie in with the end of GT because it has Oozaru Bebi as a boss and has "Final" in the title.mr.fredsolo wrote: Also, I remember reading that GT was supposed to end at the Baby arc but I don't remember the source. I remember reading from some page that Dragon Ball GT was originally planned to be a 40 episode series but somehow the series continued for other 24 episodes.

You may have read the DB Wiki, they make things up all the time.Tian wrote:I remember reading from some page that Dragon Ball GT was originally planned to be a 40 episode series but somehow the series continued for other 24 episodes.

Now I remember I read it from that page. I feel kinda dumb for believing that bit of made up info. thanks for reminding me the DB Wiki is completely unreliable.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:You may have read the DB Wiki, they make things up all the time.Tian wrote:I remember reading from some page that Dragon Ball GT was originally planned to be a 40 episode series but somehow the series continued for other 24 episodes.

Why have people been talking about super Saiyan 5? I can't recall it having been mentioned in the anime...

Bulma said something about it while working on the Bruits Wave Generator. She was just bragging about how good her machine was, it wasn't a literal reference to a new transformation.sangofe wrote:Why have people been talking about super Saiyan 5? It was only in the FUNI dub IIRC.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Bulma said something about it while working on the Bruits Wave Generator. Re: Was GT actually cancelled?
That rumor existed long before Wikia was even a terrible, slow-loading twinkle in its creator's eye. The idea is that it was going to complete its run after the initial 40 episodes, but continued to promote the release of Final Bout on Playstation. There's never been any source for that though, as far as I know.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:You may have read the DB Wiki, they make things up all the time.

For the record, I think it was based off of this line, which is essentially saying the same thing.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:It was only in the FUNI dub IIRC.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Bulma said something about it while working on the Bruits Wave Generator. I know it didn't begin at the wiki, but people often read it and assume everything there is true.Cipher wrote:That rumor existed long before Wikia was even a terrible, slow-loading twinkle in its creator's eye. There was an explicit SS5 line in Japanese, but it was a throwaway line by Vegeta, not the equivalent of the Dub's reference.

Buruma: (She brings up schematics for the Bruits wave emitter.) Vegeta: Surpass Super Saiyajin 4?! Buruma, when will you have it completed?
Buruma: Before the Earth is destroyed.
Vegeta: Nice work! (He crushes the canned drink in his hand.) Kakarotto, bring on your Super Saiyajin 4, or 5, or whatever you want! I'm still not finished!
Buruma: You sure are a battle-loving Saiyajin! But then, I'm still that Saiyajin's wife. (She winks.)
Vegeta: (Cue epic blushing.)

I'm well aware. Pretty sure the equivalent Dub line that mentioned SS5 was from Bulma, specifically the "surpassing" line.Black Hawk wrote:Buruma: (She brings up schematics for the Bruits wave emitter.)
