Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
Oh, this will definitely turn into Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball XenoVerse pushing. Dragon Ball Super will probably be replaced with a new animated series soon, with a new brand and set of toys to sell, I'm sure.

This just for Manga stuff right? I think if DB gets it's own magazine with a bunch of people doing spin offs etc I wouldn't be too bothered it'd be a lot of fun.

That's would be good if that's what it is. A DB anthology magazine.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:This just for Manga stuff right? I think if DB gets it's own magazine with a bunch of people doing spin offs etc I wouldn't be too bothered it'd be a lot of fun.
Toei's not mentioned, so I thought this was a manga only thing.

Admittedly, nothing is directly said about Super in the news (at least again, not via ANN's version), a lot of us are just projecting where that might lead for it too, especially given Toriyama's joke comment of 'now I don't have to do anything'.
...Huh. One good thing about other people coming up with ideas though, especially if they can get Toriyama to go along with it, is that maybe it can eventually move beyond the end of the manga?

Shueisha and Toei have something to do with Dragon Ball, but could anyone give a brief explanation of how both companies are involved? Thanks.

Perhaps a new weekly Dragon Ball manga that doesn't necessarily follow Son Goku?
Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
I wouldn't read it, but I feel like a lot of people here would.
How well do those spin offs in Saikyo starring other characters do?

Yeah and the popular titles could get OVA's, Web Series etc.Chuquita wrote:That's would be good if that's what it is. A DB anthology magazine.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:This just for Manga stuff right? As long as Super is untouched (which from what I gather it will be?) I'm fine with whatever they do.

I've always said Dragon Ball will never die again but holy crap! they are really going the extra mile here, I wonder if they intend to drop Goku as a mc soon?

What I am looking forward to see the most if this happens is the fan reception. Will these people be given a chance or will it be GT all over again.

I will be also intrigued if this will go to Star Wars path.
This is great news for Piccolo and Gohan fans, because both Piccolo and Gohan could become relevant again in the future.

Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
I feel like Toriyama isn't able to completely distance himself (nor do I want him to) from Dragon Ball. Hopefully he'll be able to continue contributing in some way to the story developments on Super, because it went from an average series to a pretty darn good one within the last two (original) arcs. Toriyama's output seems to be at it's peak when he has a good editor working with him, or at least a decent team of writers to filter out the bad and bring out the good.
However, this press release is rather vague. This could have nothing to do with Super, and be mainly for tie-in products, such as Heroes, Xenoverse, etc... We'll have to see what develops.
Personal wishes: If it leads to interesting stories being told (and being told well by good writers) and talented animators and storyboarders getting involved, I'm all for it.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Why do you think it will be replaced soon? Because Toriyama's tired of working?JulieYBM wrote:Oh, this will definitely turn into Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball XenoVerse pushing. Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball Super's future is the one I care the most. While the Future Trunks Arc and Battle of Gods shows that Toriyama being fed with ideas while changing stuff and adding his own can make great things, him jokingly saying he's glad he won't do anything anymore makes me think he will no longer provide content for us, which hits me quite hard. No matter how good it is, if Toriyama's not involved in it in any way, It just feels different, don't how to describe it. Toriyama said he became so much attached to Dragon Ball that he can't just leave it alone, so maybe he will still be involved ? Hopefully.
If they can provide creative people that have vast knowledge about the series like Toyotaro, and then sending new contents to Toriyama for him to change things he doesn't like and add his own, I'd be very happy. But in general, I have mixed feelings about this. It's either a hit or miss.
But hey, If they're going to have spin-off stuff for characters like Hit and Future Trunks, who knows what might happen ? Dragon Ball is a franchise that have a bunch of interesting characters after all.

Shueisha is the publisher and master rights owner, although Toriyama as the original creator has final say. Most comic creators don't really care about the rest of the franchise, however. Toei Animation is in charge of the animated projects, having licensed those rights from Shueisha. Toei Animation provides the main production studio--Toei Animation--and producers, production assistants, directors and animators. Other directors, storyboard artists, animators, production assistants and actual writers are hired as freelancers to work on the projects, too. Toei Animation usually leads the production committees for the animated projects, but on occasion Shueisha will take the lead--like with the 2008 JUMP Anime Tour special--and Toei will simply act as the production studio. Bandai is in charge of merchandise, Yomika Advertising is in charge of advertising and Fuji TV is in charge of broadcasting and helping to get sponsors for the broadcast. Columbia is in charge of the music, which is why the opening and ending themes are usually artists that Columbia wants to push out CDs for.ABED wrote:Shueisha and Toei have something to do with Dragon Ball, but could anyone give a brief explanation of how both companies are involved? Dragon Ball is a brand that will exist long past Toriyama's death. This Dragon Ball Room will create a well-oiled machine that will allow for new projects in all sorts of different mediums to be produced in a timely and regular manner, which means more money for Shueisha, Toei Animation and Bandai.sangofe wrote:Why do you think it will be replaced soon? As I rush to keep up with things, spinoffs could be good in that it'll save me time because I won't be interested--freeing up my time AND it'll saite everyone else here that's craving spinoffs.

DB has been a major merchandise seller for them for year so it was only a matter of time before this happened but I'm not sure it's a good thing for the franchise because it seems like it's turning into the next Yu Gi Oh/Pokemon.
DB was a story, it had a beginning, middle & end but now it seems like that has been lost in favore of selling merchandise and I think that will get worse once Toriyama steps down and hands things over to this room.

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Yeah, that I agree with you, (and am happy about) but when you write "soon" in my head that is like for example the next arc of Dragon Ball Super...JulieYBM wrote:Shueisha is the publisher and master rights owner, although Toriyama as the original creator has final say. I wouldn't jump to conclusions before seeing the product. It could be better than anything Toriyama ever created or it could be worse, so we'll have to wait and see.sintzu wrote: DB was a story, it had a beginning, middle & end but now it seems like that has been lost in favore of selling merchandise and I think that will get worse once Toriyama steps down and hands things over to this room.
