I think many characters will be eliminated soon, and we will see only a few part of them Just think about Tenkaichi... there were 8 final fighters out from how many in the pre-tournament phase? Most of them were knocked out off-screen...

Rules of this tournament will probably be different, but they will find a way to cut many charcaters out...

Or we may see an entire team eliminated inside a single static image...

I think it's going to be a Universe 6 type situation where you have 1 guy that's really the "Hit" person on each team and the rest will be random fillers filled by Toei like the filler between U6 and Black arc.

How many fighters were there in the dark tournament in Yu Yu Hakusho? I would be surprised if Toriyama could do more than that, although we are talking about the man who just sketches out as many designs as he can and hands them off to the developers of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger so I'm assuming we'll get lots of fights happening offscreen and we'll mostly just see the people that the 10 Universe 7 combatants fight against, which will still be a lot of characters, also we'll probably get a load of characters that don't have any lines and are just fought against in quick highlights of their battles, to leave time for any underlying story to emerge as is often the case in these arcs. This is assuming that it's just Toriyama doing the designs, even if it's not I still think he'll do the usual check up on all the designs presented to him.

I hope they aren't all Whis and Vados type plus cats. It's fine for the Universes that are twinned, but it would be a cheap uninteresting cop-out for the Universes as a whole. I just hope they can use this new expanded setting to its full potential and don't start copying and pasting too much.
