How many prodigies exist?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Goku hasn't always had extremely acute ki sensing ability. He had extremely acute ki sensing ability after he spent years training in the skill under god and years more of practical experience using the skill in the field. Vegeta had extremely acute ki sensing immediately.

Even if Goku being younger was enough of a factor to even out the gap of three years vs instantaneously, there are still many other examples. Not the least of which being the fact that Goku trained all his life and still wasn't as strong as his older brother who didn't train at all, let alone Prince Vegeta. That's the difference between a prodigy and a low level, although Raditz himself was a low level, so naturally and genetically speaking, Goku was more like a low level among low levels. It took sacrificing his life and being allowed to keep his body in the afterlife so he could train under the lord of the northern section of the universe just for Goku to surpass Nappa, a saiyan elite, but he still didn't surpass Vegeta until even further training after that.

If Vegeta possessed naturally what Goku had to work to earn, that makes Vegeta a prodigy and Goku not.

You keep assuming that it took 3 years to learn how to sense ki. We simply don't know that. I wouldn't be surprised if goku learnt it in a week and then rest of the 3 years was spent doing other things. Vegeta also didn't learn it instantaneously. It's not like he was doing it on earth. It wasn't until namek that he was able to do it if I remember correctly. Also is there any confirmation that Raditz never trained?

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Why do you keep saying it took him 3 years? There is absolutely nowhere it says that at all. Especially since he's been shown to have more ability in that area than the man you say learned it instantly.

Also I hate when people bring up the Radditz training thing. Its so poorly thought through. You realize living on Earth (until King Piccolo) Goku never fought ANYONE with any sort of power. Even if he fought every day and trained the level of fighters for him to improve with was too low. If the hero is just stronger than every villain the show becomes moronic like OPM. You're taking something typical of Shonen anime and trying to make it mean more than it actually does.

Also have you never heard the theory (well fact) that two people being great at the same time doesn't diminish either against the rest of time? Its basic logic. Both can be prodigies and have no need to be compared at all. You should be comparing them to the rest of existence not each other.

How did you manage to forget Gohan and even worse, Goku? haha

Goku genetically should not be a prodigy. In real life a strong person mating with another strong person would make a really strong child naturally. If you excell in anything greatly and have children they would naturally be good at something you spent your whole life trying to perfect.

This is the case for Gohan as well. Goku was not as strong as Bardock which means Gohan should have even less takent. I do not know if locked potential passes down to the next child but if it does then we could give Gohan the pass on having unlock potential.

Are you saying Gohan has less talent than Goku when it comes to strength?

Yes this is exactly what i am saying.

Bardock is Goku's father who was a low class saiyan. Raditz was a low class himself with a power level of 1,200. Bardock should be no higher than 2,000 at the most because if Nappa was an elite at 5,000 there is no way Bardock is 3,000. Goku had Gohan after his fight with Piccolo. I'm going to assume he was at 300. If Goku was weaker than his own father when he had a child how is gohan going to have more nautral strength than Goku when Goku is the one with the stronger father? Unless wasted potential gets passed down to the next child i can't see Gohan with any better natural talent than Goku.

This literally contradicts everything in the show. Gohan from his very first appearance was stronger than Goku. He's consistently said to have the most potential. What you said might have been true if Gohan was a full saiyan and not a hybrid (although I doubt it), but at the end of the day gohan has more potential. It's an undeniable fact at this point.

If you think like that then yes the show does prove that he does and there is no arguing that but in reality Gohan should be no better than his father at what he does. Toriyama is no scientist he knows nothing of genetics so i doubt he even thought of the idea.

You are right though it is a fact you can not deny.

- Gohan
- Trunks
- Goten
- Pan
- Uub
- Freezer

I think these are the only ones who are shown to be prodigies. The others just trained their ass off. Goku is a fighting prodigy but only skill-wise.

Gohan is the prodigy that probably that surpasses all others. Probably second to Frieza.

Most the characters are prodigies to some extent;

Yamcha was a simple desert bandit, yet he was able to kick around a boy who could tank bullets when we first met him. And Yamcha's supposedly one of the less talented guys.

Krillin was considered a weakling by his temple's standards yet he still Karate chopped a tiger in the neck prior to recieving any of Roshi's training and was said to be approaching super human levels in terms of speed. Again, Krillin is said to not be a prodigy by his temples standards.

Heck even Mr. Satan doesn't exactly look like a man who trained particularly hard through his life, yet he's still able to beat up armed gunmen and overpower many of the Tenkaichi Budoukai entrants to become the champ the year the Z fighters didn't enter.

Raditz isn't a prodigy by his species standards, but he's about the only major character I can think of who was a fighter yet not a prodigy relative to his species.

Zamasu was a prodigy from birth and his fighting skills were amazing. It is also stated that Zamasu was a genius amongst even the Kais and that his power vastly surpassed the Universe 7's Supreme Kais. Heck, Goku himself stated that Zamasu, one day, might have been able to surpass even Beerus, so Zamasu was definitely the character with the most potential in the series.
