Re: Vegeta in DBS
What is out of character isn't him being strategic -although I'm not even sure he is anymore, things are not even close to be as tense than on Namek, when he didn't have a choice, him allying with Gohan and Krillin just for strategy and him hating having to team up made him grim and awesome IMO, but I see no legit reason according to his character to act the way he does in Super with Beerus and Whis, I absolutely cannot relate lol
Then i know, of course he has gone through a lot till now, but the fact he isn't disrespecting Beerus is not the problem, it's the way he does it that is out of character.

Re: Vegeta in DBS
It's not coincidence we have multiple threads about characters seeming to be out of character or going against their character in Super... just saying... you can make the argument that it's been years later and all that but I don't remember that even being levied against GT despite a latter time frame.PsionicWarrior wrote:What is out of character isn't him being strategic -although I'm not even sure he is anymore, things are not even close to be as tense than on Namek, when he didn't have a choice, him allying with Gohan and Krillin just for strategy and him hating having to team up made him grim and awesome IMO, but I see no legit reason according to his character to act the way he does in Super with Beerus and Whis, I absolutely cannot relate lol

That being said, Vegeta still has his pride. Anyone who still refers to themselves as the Prince of All Saiyans still has certain amount of pride. People can make excuses for he Beerus/Whis relationship all day long and you know what fine. I completely disagree but you cannot make an argument for Vegetas behavior outside of that. Especially filler. Vegeta sucking on the pacifier was ridiculous.. Vegetas natural character would rather let him die and be wished back via the Dragonballs than do that. That's just the kind of guy he is. He should have at least put up MUCH more of a fuse than he did. Any level or shred of pride he had at one point in his character is now cold dumbed down and simplified shell of his former complex character just like Goku.

Re: Vegeta in DBS
I don't think anyone can deny that characters in DBS are a little more goofier than they used to be. But I don't see a real problem with it. When Vegeta is goofy it's usually for a good reason, like training or not pissing off the god that has a habit of destroying things when he is angry. I'd much rather have this Vegeta than the one who puts his Pride above all else and screws everyone over including himself in the process. It was fine when he was still developing but it would be kind of dumb now.
Sure he can be respectful in a not goofy way, but it being goofy is the joke because it's Vegeta. If it were any other character it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining as it is with Vegeta, because he wouldn't normally do that for anyone else. Just like how Beerus is usually bossy and laid back until Zeno is involved. Then he falls all over himself trying to show respect. It's funny because Beerus normally wouldn't do that for anyone else. You don't have to like the joke, but that's what it is.
You can be angry about the Pacifier thing, but it was either that or death. Vegeta is prideful but I don't think he would ACTUALLY prefer death over putting a toy in his mouth. That wouldn't make him cool or prideful that would make him very stupid. Dying because you refused to put a toy in your mouth is not exactly a dignified way to go. Either way is a lose situation. At least in one he lives. Besides he didn't even put it together that it was a pacifier until after the fact. So it isn't like he put his pride aside for it. He was told it would keep him alive so he did it.
Does this anger at Vegeta's goofy moments come from that fact that he isn't the "Stoic Badass" all the time anymore?

The joke does wonders with Beerus, but not with Vegeta. It is especially because it is Vegeta that it is annoying, his pride should always show, even if the character went more tame with time.Boo Machine wrote: Sure he can be respectful in a not goofy way, but it being goofy is the joke because it's Vegeta. But what would showing his pride accomplish? How would he even go about doing so that doesn't get him destroyed by a very angry purple kitten?PsionicWarrior wrote:The joke does wonders with Beerus, but not with Vegeta. And why does it work better for Beerus who has never shown to bow to anybody until Zeno shows up?

I think it's the other way around, why remove it in the first place, what does that accomplishes lolBoo Machine wrote: But what would showing his pride accomplish?
OK it's not completely removed, but there is situations, notably with Beerus, where it just doesn't correspond him. And I find it annoying, because at these moments I can't relate to a character I know and like, it just doesn't work with who he is.

He gets to live with the added bonus of continuing to train. Sure there are moments where the goofy goes a little too far perhaps , but that's very rare.PsionicWarrior wrote:I think it's the other way around, why remove it in the first place, what does that accomplishes lolBoo Machine wrote: But what would showing his pride accomplish?

Re: Vegeta in DBS
Vegeta is an ass right now, alright. But he's still redeemable and can be a badass when the situation calls it.
But the most important thing without which he loses what defines him is his rivalry with Kakarot. Luckily in Super he has kept it up (in accordance with EoZ) - it's what happened in GT that was unforgivable, with him sucking Goku's dick at every turn. That part where he preached "listen to Kakarot" to Omega Shenron was probably Vegeta's most disgraceful moment as a character, so as long as Super has him avoid humiliations like this, I can take it.
I wonder if they'll go the same way with him being a total doormat to Bra too. How he acted towards his daughter was utterly undignified IMO. Not as bad as the Bingo Dance, but still

I think he means how Vegeta acknowledges guys like Whis are way stronger than him and lets it fly. I have no problem with his reaction, what is he supposed to do? Cry and be locked into a perma-tantrum? Right now he behaves like an adult - he does realize Beerus and Whis are superior to him, but he trains metodically in order to surpass them. He knows that can happen someday if he tries hard enough.Boo Machine wrote:Accepted what too easily? Stronger than who? Vegeta is casually tossing a boulder of rubble and and basically saying Goku usually kicks his opponents ass. If anything that sounds like end of Buu saga Vegeta with character development to me?

Also not sure what's wrong with the way he treats Bra. As far as Vegeta is concerns she's the only female with actual royal blood.
Re: Vegeta in DBS
I have no doubt that he will snap or something... No one takes him seriously compared to Goku... And Goku doesn't care to much of him as rival as well... Vegeta even stated he had more fun fighting Hit... Hell even even Bulma trusts Goku more of saving everyone.
The question is... What will he do this time?
And why the hel did they changed his great character development with him admting that Goku is the best again with him being mad at it... Hell I dont't even know why they changed the ending of EoZ in the Kanzenban with him... He should be over with it.

Re: Vegeta in DBS
Fuck no. The Buu Saga speech was character development, but the last thing Vegeta would ever do is blow Kakarot's horn to that extent, in such a condescending manner too. That just feels wrong, I'm glad he still wants to surpass Goku in Super (and occasionally succeeds)TheMikado wrote: What's wrong with the "listen to karrakot" speech?

Re: Vegeta in DBS
That's a really weird assessment, he was clearly attempting to intimidate Omega Sheron by implying very casually that they were going to defeat him. It's literally the same tactic Vegeta uses on Frieza about Krillin and Gohan who Vegeta has EVEN LESS respect for.Saturnine wrote:Fuck no. Re: Vegeta in DBS
I think Vegeta has been handled quite well in Super. The fact he's not perturbed at all by the wacky and goofy situations he may get himself into and the fact he's more than willing to humble himself, just shows how much his character has grown. I glad he hasn't remained the guy who also seemed to have a stick the size of Texas always stukc up his ass and just learnt that life is too shot to pissed over everything and just settled down. He's still a guy that can still occasionally get angry but he doesn't fly off the handle like he would have done many years ago and is more than willing to express his love and care for his family from time to time and how much his friendship with Goku means to him.

What i love about Vegeta & Goku realationship it's that they're basically like friends now, and Vegeta doesn't want to admit it, i personally loved his line in ep 72:"Kakarot, you seem to enjoy more fighting Hit than fighting me", there's something about it that makes me just like super's Vegeta.Lord Beerus wrote:I think Vegeta has been handled quite well in Super.
