Both are fine. I like them both.

It pulls bits from what came before while also having its own unique look.

I'm getting tired of all the damn Super Saiyan highlighter colors. We've got gold, we've got blue, we've got red, we've got pink, we've got green, we've got white if Merged Zamasu counts, it's just getting really dumb.

Super Saiyan was so iconic back in the day because of that golden hair color. People don't like Blue as much because it just doesn't look as good. In most scenes it looks really bland and almost rubbery.

I'm hoping this new form is either his base hair color (black) or we go back to gold again, because I'm sick of all the colors of the rainbow that we keep getting.

I just want to see an actual transformation, i don't mind wich colour its hairs it will be, hopefully Black or White. (Merged Zamasu isn't a SSJ White at all, it's just Zamasu's hair colour)

Calling it Saiyan God would be cool, a simple name for a simple form.
Yellow eyes look godly, and with a godly white aura and black hair with white highlightings it would be my dream transformation. And it would fit well with every possible outfit.

Looks cool too but a little to simple now that I've seen the intense blue and yellow eyes. Plus I didn't want to lose the aspect of the Blue power so I kept it with the eyes, while keeping Goku's thinner body for the red look (without using the color).

Elder Kai unlock ability or "Mystic", wouldn't do anything for Goku in theory, as God ki takes Goku and Vegeta beyond their natural limits and mystic only unlocks your natural limits.

Why do we need another recolour anyway? What's wrong with trying to master a SSB 2? Or Goku (as he seems to be the only guy who matters worth a crap) doing SSB Kaioken x20? Or using Blutz waves to go Great Ape SSB? If trunks can absorb a friggin Spirit Bomb, why can't Goku do the same and go Spirit Goku Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Kaioken x10?

What would be the rationale behind SS Violet? Seriously why another recolour? It makes life too easy for Goku.

Purple (my favorite color!) would be great if it was unique to someone besides Gokū or Vegeta - i.e. Cabba, Caulifla, or even Gohan if they decide to drop Mystic for some reason. Though, while I think orange would look nice on Gokū, purple would flow better logically if his "new form" is a Blue + Kaiō-ken combination, as was mentioned in the OP.

As a side note, a little off-topic but since everyone has brought this up already, I'm curious how "recolors" are that much worse than the older Super Saiyan forms. SSJ was raised up, recolored hair; SSJ2 was (sometimes) spikier than SSJ and had electricity; and SSJ3 added more hair to SSJ2. Don't get me wrong - I like all the Super Saiyan forms myself, so I'm not bashing here. It's just difficult to understand why the new forms get so much flack when, as far as creativity goes, they don't have much of a difference from the original forms.

And who said recolors were bad to begin with? IMO, laziness has nothing to do with it. I mean, Super Saiyan itself was more or less born of laziness, so it's not excused from the Super forms' "flaws" in that regard.

This so much this... Anyways did some of you forget the Red vs Blue article that pretty much tells us that Toriyama did put some thought into the 2 forms instead of being random colors as some like to think.

Unfortunately, unless your name is Goku, it seems we've seen only an omission of characters' abilities lately. Frieza has Death Rays and his planet buster. Vegeta only has Final Flash and ineffectual punches. Gohan... doesn't even have a signature attack. Piccolo only has Special Beam cannon. Krillin only has Destructo Disk (oh, and the incredibly useful Solar Flare x100 ). Tien only has Tri Beam. Actually Roshi of all people has more flexibility than most of the team with his Dad Bod, Kamehameha, the Lightning Surprise Attack thing and the Evil Containment Wave.

I truly wish we would see the Z-Fighters develop new techniques and hone new uses and variations on some old techniques, even if we only got to see Goku learning new techniques, but even Goku is just using Kamehameha, Instant Transmission, SSB, and Kaioken. Not much variety of technique there...

On that note, Gokū cycling through most/all of his techniques in a fast-paced fight would be really interesting. Actually, that could probably be done in a video game if the developers wanted to put some extra effort into a moveset, e.g. as a unique variation of Gokū in Xenoverse, or something along those lines.

And I think it will be pretty dope. It has to be related with what Gohan said to Goku during their sparring in the middle of the night: "A new level of power in a different way".
