Opening theme changes crossing borders

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

It's just some rock music with some loud voices screaming "ROCK, ROCK, ROCK THE DRAGON!!!" but suprisingly i have seen so many people here saying thats it's great. I dont understand it at all. If it's something i have to give Viz credit for it's using the original Japanese opening themes for at least some of their series. They used the Japanese opening themes for Ranma 1/2 at least and i have heard that they abadonded the horrible opening for Naruto they first used and gone over to using the second Japanese opening themes. Dubbing companies should learn to use the Japanese themes from them.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Japanese people dont care what America gets. Japan usually gets the best of the best in anime so i dont really think they care what other countrys get, but it's possible that they discuss it some rare times.
Personally I think "Rise" is much beter than "Rocks," but that's me. But what I was mainly wondering about was how there are purists who like Japanese openings for anime, yet if there are purists in Japan who got mad about this:

That's actually a pretty hawt opening.

Actually, I don't think we can assume. Unless anyone knows any Japanese people who have issues with such things, yeah, I suppose this is just....=P
Yes it is a very good opening. I was just wondering if anyone was mad they didn't use the original X-Men opening like some were mad Funi didn't use "Cha-La".

Not if the lyrics to both of the songs are any indication.

I don't really think that songs with slow tempo and lyrics about falling in love have any association with Dragon Ball. :|

EDIT: Forgot to mention... "Let's ride through this moment with a rusted machine gun!!" Dragon Ball?

Yes as much as I love the music from GT, I have to agree with Tori-bot on this. By the time GT came around, the creators of the series jumped on the "bandwagon trend" of having anime series' themes be trendy J-pop music that had nothing to do with the series' subject.

Yes I love that music, but at the same time, I really miss Kageyama and the other regular singers they had around during DB/DBZ singing all those image songs and themes. There almost almost a feeling of being "removed" from GT's theme songs.
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

They seem pretty fitting to me. There is an element of romance to DragonBall after all (especially with the space exploration stuff in GT). It's also nice to have some contrast every now and then, kind of like how they might use soft violin music during a battle scene, and so forth. As for "Let's ride through this moment with a rusted machine gun!!", what part about that doesn't fit in with DragonBall? The gun? It's just a metaphor, it doesn't mean Goku and crew are running around with rusty machine guns... But yeah, as Jerseymilk was saying, these are pre-existing licenced songs, and not written specifically for the series. You can't really expect them to match the show 100%.

O...k...
This is just another metaphor for absolute determination, probably rooted in Gohan's childhood/upbringing. I will argue that HEAD-CHA-LA and ZENKAI Power were used for way too long, but at least up to the end of the Freeza arc, they were perfect theme songs.

Actually, I was watching a show last year where they were counting down the top anime themes of all time, and HEAD-CHA-LA ranked 3rd. And when you look at what the top 2 songs were, it kinda puts into perspective just how beloved the song really is...

3. CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
2. Touch (first opening to Touch, 1985)
1. Uchuu Senkan Yamato (opening to Space Battleship Yamato, 1974)

And if you don't know Touch or Yamato, all you have to know is that they're insanely popular, and both have incredible themes.
LOL, reminds me of Fist of the North Star... You wa Shock! :P

Is the Yamato theme similar to Star Blazers' or different?

Don't know, I've never seen the dub. I did find an awesome live version of the song, though, so you can check for yourself...

Sounds more militarized but is the same as the Star Blazers theme (shows how old I am I guess).

And that X-Men one I remember they showed parts of it on the credits to X-Men in syndication with the original theme. Synced up pretty good too.
