Yes, Piccolo and Kuririn both have pink pupils until their charade is over and they magically decide to have black pupils again. I was always irritated by that inconsistency.ABED wrote:If I recall, we see Kuririn's pupils change color to indicate he's infected, but that's not playing fair with the audience.

Agreed. You might be able to get away with it with Piccolo because he was/is a demon, but not Kuririn. I don't like when stories do twists that don't play fair.PacificOceanDub wrote:Yes, Piccolo and Kuririn both have pink pupils until their charade is over and they magically decide to have black pupils again. The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I do like the horror movie vibes that the arc had, and the premise of the protagonist’s loved ones being turned against them is a decent idea, but the arc quite obviously has no bearing on any future plot points, and trying to implement movie 1 into the main series doesn’t really work when that film quite clearly contradicts what we see at the beginning of the Saiyan arc. Plus, the animation was probably at its weakest point of the original run.

I personally enjoyed this arc and it does a good job setting up storylines for the next arc. Piccolo's connection with Kami is reinforced, Krillin's love life, Vegeta striving to be a super saiyan and Gohan being the hero. Sure the pacing is a bit weird but I think its a fun arc. I kind of wished Yamcha didn't get infected so he could have helped the others but overall I enjoyed it.

As a Gohan fan, i had no beef whatsoever with that arc
I think it's reputation particularly among the North American fanbase isn't helped by how atrocious the dub is for that arc. It's somehow worse than Season 3. When that's the impression most Western fans have of the arc, then yikes.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
