Don't get me wrong I don't kiss the feet of Funimation. I know there is a lot of mistakes but I think the voice acting is decent though I enjoy the original voice cast on a whole other level. I'm not fluent in Japanese however...

Thank god for subtitles!

P.S. That was fast VegettoEX! I mean I barely left and boom you sneak in, post and sneak out!

Oh and I'm glad you don't hate me cause frankly you SCARE me!

Oh by the way nice scans Toonaki. The picture on the back is new to me too but I recall it is a scene from the film that goes by relatively quick.

Hey, I'm a diehard dubbie too, but thanks to this podcast I have an appreciation for the Japanese dub of the show. I already have an appreciation for the original Japanese music as well!

You don't really alienate dub fans as much as you seem to. You don't have this air of annoying superiority that many sub snobs tend to have. I seem to remember you mentioned on an early episode that you watched Movie 9 in English in its entirety, so that shows to me that you were open-minded enough to watch at least ONE of the movies in English. [However, in last week's episode you did whine about "dubs making me cry" -- but at least Meri and Julian got to pick on you relentlessly after that, which saved the episode for me!] Hey, all it takes is for people to have an open mind and you'll be gently surprised by how much more to the show you get to appreciate.

And one last comment: I love Chris Patton and I hope he's as good sounding as some people have made him out to be in Movie 3.

Yeah, I was referred to as a "dubbie" before by Vegetto EX himself. I'd just like to know: What exactly is a dubbie? And what exactly makes me a dubbie? Since I've been here, I've only heard one precise overview about this from one person: Duo. And if I can just quote him a bit..

To me, a dubbie is just someone who prefers the English dub as opposed to the Japanese dub. (Reminder, ALL animation is dubbed.) Being n00bish has nothing to do with it, IMO.

There've been times watching other anime series in Japanese (most noticeably, Fullmetal Alchemist) where I was thinking, "jeez, the animation was definitely made for the eventual English dub of the show" especially when the Japanese don't even make any effort to match mouth flaps in their Japanese dubs. English dubs, especially over the past 4-5 years or so, have improved by leaps and bounds over their predecessors in the '80s and early-to-mid '90s.

I don't really mind the English dub of DBZ, even though I wish the music was the original Japanese. However, I also like to watch the show in Japanese from time to time. Ah, the wonders of DVDs and the wonderful little "audio" button on the remote! Once again, as long as you have an open mind, you can be surprised how much you might like the Japanese dub of DBZ!

Yeah, I see what you mean. For the record, I prefer the japanese version of the show. Using the terms that the dub use is just for convenience and basically a force of habit (although I don't see it as a bad this to say Krillin or Buu. I refuse to say the dreaded H-word though

).

Pioneer is on the left and the FUNimation 2006 version is on the right. As you can see its clearer, but not by much. The FUNimation one looks better then the Pioneer release when being played, its hard to tell with these pics. The DragonBox on the other hand...yea...

By the way, none of these images are zoomed in or anything. It was just that when it came to comparing to the DragonBox it was easier to just crop a certain part of the screen then to do a side by side comparison. You know, being the Dragonbox is "widescreen" and the region 1's are not. Any other request?

Video quality's almost identical. Both have their fair share of rainbows on black lines.

Any chance of seeing any comparisons with World's Strongest?

Eh I might still get it, just because I don't own a World's Strongest Pioneer copy and also need a replacement for my Tree of Might DVD. I mean I already own ToM and Dz on VHS, but I would still get the DVD set for the Japanese versions.

EDIT: Am I the only one that doesn't really care?

Just brought this set today, diddn't open it yet. Did they fix the audio problem on Dead Zone? (where the previous release had a bit of dub audio on the Japanese track near the end of the film)

I just saw the 3 films last night. The second one is easily my favorite. While I liked the concept of Tullece (what-if Son Goku was evil), Haiya Dragon plagued the movie, as it did with 4 & 5. I probably won't bother with the dubs since those days are long over for me.

Well the picture quality may not be a huge leap forward from the Pioneer releases (which I own) but I'm still going to pick this up later today if only for Daimao's excellent subtitles. I don't really care about the dub side of things. I'll watch it once and from there on I'd only watch it in the original Japanese.
