Some people blame Goku being dumb due to how modern main characters are written nowadays, however that isn't true at all. I have been watching many modern anime which the main character is intelligent.
Toei were just lazy when it came to writing DBS and Digimon Adventure Reboot. Since people like those IP due to the 80/90 anime, they most likely thought they didn't need to put effort into their writing.
Should Dragon Ball adopt more Seinen storylines?
