Honestly this is actually really cool; they don't undersell Gohan's intelligence because he's "just a kid", which is good considering the line of work they often find themselves in. Gohan IS smart too; he's certainly more capable to me than Goten is at his age.

It’s nice that they don’t undersell his intelligence but when you get to the point of Krillin getting jealous of a first grader receiving attention from his girlfriend it’s just weird.

I actually do like that Goten is allowed to be treated like a little kid, it helped that he had another kid to play off of rather than only hanging out with adults.

I enjoy how the lines between kids and adults are blurred in the series. It makes sense for a cartoon world. You get adults who go all out on children in battle and have no qualms with taking their lives. It's a nice bit of fantasy for kids in the audience who dream of playing with the big boys and being taken seriously.

Jealousy between adults and children only seems natural in a cartoon world, and in my view makes the series that much more entertaining and endearing.
