Goku's clothes from King Kai

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Paraphrasing: Teleporting? I could've taught you that. -King Kai
I remember him saying something like that in both the manga and anime. As for King Kai not teleporting himself, he probably didn't have enough time to do so. Hell if he could teleport, Goku's return to earth wouldn't be so dramatic, eh?
I always wondered why Goku didn't teleport back to earth after transfering Cell to avoid death.

Baba floats on a crystal ball, I don't see any problem with that... King Kai may hve being taught Instant Movement by Yadrats, the way he says it is like he experianced it. But remember you have to focus onto one person ki to do it but if a giant going to explode Cell appear will you be able to focus?

King Kai can't, he couldn't 'zap' goku back to earth remember.

Well, Remember that it's teleportation of the performer and cargo... do we ever see Kaio leave the afterlife? Not counting that dream I had where he was talking to Yamcha about something and Goku showed up... So it's possible that He needs to stay on his planet while he's not on his way to Dai Kaio? And... umm... would have had to teleport Goku himself, and therefore couldn't?
Of course, then he couldn't teleport clothes, now could he?

Phasing clothes into existence somewhere in no way suggests that Kaio-sama can teleport. There is absolutely no basis for this idea.

In the anime, he is shown teleporting when he talks to Goku about it... although that doesn't do much here.

It really just seems to me that it was something like...

Goku: *hospitalized*
Kaio: Hey Goku, I left some new outfits in your closet... figured they might come in handy.
Goku: Wow, thanks! ... can you send senzu beans too?
Kaio: Sorry... no can do.

When is Kaio ever shown teleporting? He never teleports; in the manga, anime, or movies. His only techniques appear to be Bukujutsu/Flight, infinite telepathy, Kaioken (at least up to 2x), the ability to conjure training items, and the Genki-dama/Spirit Bomb (which he never even fully mastered). He NEVER performs Instantaneous Movement. The technique itself was taught to Goku by the people of Yardrat.

Toriyama must have had an epiphany and realized that kaio cannot teleport, just a day before the chapter was published. He probably thought, "Oh well, it's not like people are going to be arguing about Goku's clothes".

We sure showed him, huh?

On topic... Kaio's a god, ya know. I'm sure he's got something in his vast, otherworldy repetoir that would allow him to transport or materialize simple objects onto one of his planets.

Yeah I would have thought so, I mean if Kaioshin could make things appear, their is nothing saying that other Kais cannot.

*imagines that grossly misinterpreted the scene in question*.
My vision is crap, but it was a little better at the time that I saw that episode (Funi's dub...). I distinctly remember though the scene happening like this in the dub...

KingKai: Ah, I see; Instant transmission: the Yardrats' trick. I could have taught you that, you know. *teleports somewhere*. But you never asked!

Naturally the dialogue is messed up, since I've seen quotes of the same scene in this thread... but that's not what confused me. Ah, my mistake. *looks for dvd with that episode anyway*.

So ... we're agreed that Kaio can send simple objects anywhere in his domain, but not lifeforms?

I like to think that, even in the Dragon World, biological masses are more complex than, say, a shirt. Call me crazy.

Also, the concept of Teleportation didn't even exist in the story yet when all this happened.

Ah, ha! If King Kai actually knew teleportation wouldn't he save Goku from, I don't know, certain destruction on Namek? Or wouldn't he teleport to Goku to Yemma when the saiyans arrived?

Good points, though I expect many members won't be satisfied with an outside-the-box explanation, and will want an in-universe one. Luckily, the universe of Dragonball proves Kaio-sama didn't know it anyway.

So we've got it covered on all possible fronts. If only the thread would die.

Mr. Popo's magic carpet? Kami-Sama sending Gokû's body in the other world and back?

Popo is a separate being from all that is fictional. He acts without limitations of Toriyama-sensei's wishes.

Phasing between dimensions is kinda different, too.

Makes you (or at least me) wonder... if Piccolo retained that ability from Kami after the two merged.

Yeah, didn't Piccolo need King Kai to talk to Gohan and Krillin on Namek? We see him talking to Gohan through his mind against No.20 and later when Super Buu arrives at the lookout. (Keep in mind that telepathy was used by Goku at the end of the Freeza fight and how he did it is beyond me.)

I was talking about the teleportation between dimensions thing, like how Kami could poof between the palace and the check-in station to pick drop off and pick up Goku. Even if those are the only two points he can go to, it'd still be pretty useful for Piccolo to have.

Oh, teleportation..Well, Kami was supposed to be the god of earth so I guess he had special abilities that he could do. If Piccolo gained that ability when he fused with Kami, he could probably catch Cell with no problem, teleport Cell to King Kai and be revived with the Dragonballs, leave Buu in RoSaT and exit with Gotenks, etc. My guess is that that type of teleportation is limited to gods and kais.
