Concerning the seperation into multiple books, he originally wanted to do the LOTR as one book. As many books are divided into seperate "sections" called books (w/in themselves), but because of its size each section became a book. The Hobbit just wasn't as big as the LOTR, which is why it wasn't split up. Consumerism had very little to do w/it.
Your laugh makes me creep.
.....Because ADULTS get Tolkien.
That's why people are watching the movies w/o reading the books. At least the Hobbit really WAS completely and utterly aimed at kids. Most people who read it did so as kids and not as adults.

Just to clarify, are you countering ME, Dayspring? Because I agreed with everything you said in my last post.
"Chrysanthemums will wither together with its leaves, lying beside the fiery eyes soaked with blood. Even then, your sublime status will never be shaken, even if only half of your limbs will remain. To increase the fascination within the drama, should the search for a new partner begin? If so, then head to the east. You will definitely meet the one who is waiting for you."
Just disagreeing with how you said kids can't "get" the LOTR. The rest was an elaboration of what you said

No no, I know kids can 'get' LOTR, but since the mythology is so damn dense, with all the people and places, I just meant it might not be as easy for them to keep track of. That's all I meant.

Yet adults can? There's still arguing being done as to whether or not it was Merry or Eowyn who was the one who killed the Witch Lord.

Ah but now we're falling into DBZ kid lamer camp - just because theres stuff there that adults are more likely to appreciate doesnt make it for adults
Thats what I'm getitng at here even if theres soimet things meant for the adult viewer or reader to keep them there, does not change the audience.

Eowyn. ::Runs::
Edit: I must clarify, I really don't feel LOTR is just for adults, I don't... I just think, as far as adults go, to them, it's more appealing than Harry Potter and the like. That's just my opinion based on what I've seen.

But like I said, I'm only going by what 'I' have seen. If it's different elswhere, so be it.
