I agree. I thought I was the only one who really thought about the other life forms quote. But, looking at Cell, he kinda looks like he may possibly have the cell's of the cultivars. I can't really think of anyone else he may have in him, because he doesn't show any other attacks.Viz wrote:Previously, Doctor Gero tried to use bio-technology to create an android, but due to time constraints, he programmed a computer to finish the experiment. That's how I've always understood that part. I don't remember the exact Japanese phrasing, but I never thought it could be referring to other (human) characters, anyway...FindKenshi wrote:Who really even knows what "and a number of other life forms" really means? Look at Cell's appearance. He has camo-like spots on his body, and wings. No Saiyan, Namekian, or Freeza's family had those traits. Furthermore, Cell looks like a big cartoon caricature of a cicada in his first form's "pupal stage."
It could possibly be that a cicada's cell was used as the "base" for combining all of the foreign DNA together.

Although in the anime, he demonstrates attacks of many characters the manga didn't allude to. Attacks such as Kuririn's Kienzan, Tien's Shishin No Ken (Multiform) and Kikoho (which I believe is just used by the Cell Jr.s), the Taiyoken (although Goku knew this technique by the time his DNA would've been collected), and his black spots could be speculated as coming from Saibamen heritage. Now, I am on the hunt for screen-caps of the devices that spied on Goku and his friends and the one that collected DNA.Super Saiyan Turlast x4 wrote:I can't really think of anyone else he may have in him, because he doesn't show any other attacks.

If you're referring to the attack that Cell uses against Goku during their fight, then I'm pretty sure that was actually said to be the Kienzan-like technique that Freeza used to cut himself in half. At first Kuririn thought this technique was a Kienzan, but someone corrects him because unlike the Kienzan, it could be maneuvered like Yamcha's Sokidan.Conan the SSJ wrote: Attacks such as Kuririn's Kienzan...

He used it against Gohan after he went Super Saiyan 2, where of course the attack failed. It was Kuririn's Kienzan in this moment, as indicated in dialogue in both Japanese version and the dub.Herms wrote:If you're referring to the attack that Cell uses against Goku during their fight, then I'm pretty sure that was actually said to be the Kienzan-like technique that Freeza used to cut himself in half. I haven't seen the anime version of Cell's origin explanation in a long time, but were Tenshinhan and/or Kuririn et. al actually named in the Japanese dialogue, or was that a dub thing they made up because of the flashbacks? I can't remember.
But either way, Vegeta could use a Kienzan just like Kuririn's. He used it to cut off Oozaru Gohan's tail. So he could have just as well gotten that ability from Vegeta. Plus Freeza had his own version, too.
Gokuu knew Taiyouken.
Cell only used a split form ability in the anime. Incidentally, Piccolo was able to use a split form ability in the anime, too.
The only one of those examples that can't be explained by the five explicitly mentioned in the manga is Kikouhou, but I'm pretty sure that's another anime only usage, anyway. Trying to use that as evidence that Toriyama was implying Tenshinhan was one of the other "life forms" might work for the anime continuity, but doesn't have any basis in the manga.

I always figured that it was pretty much just a basic attack, that anyone could do--if they had a bit of creativity. Nappa didn't recognize it, but Vegeta instantly told him to duck. Vegeta then mumbled angrily that Nappa should know what type of attack that was, didn't he?Herms wrote:Goku also used something that seemed almost identicle to the Kienzan against Majin Buu, when he returned to Earth with the potara. From an Earthbound human's prespective, like Krillin, it may seem like an ingenious attack. But to these space monsters with "power levels" in the tens of thousands and higher, when ki manipulation comes so naturally, I doubt the kienzan is really something unique and rare.

Recall that #18-20 were supposed to know the fighting styles of Goku and Co; speculating, but I'd bet if they used ki in a traditional sense they would probably have used stolen techniques as well.
