Ki Torrent

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

First, when a character is charging up their ki and they have the rushing torrent of ki around them what is that? Is it the ki that they're gathering or is it ki that they already had that's multiplying.

Second, after said character has charged and ready for battle they typically have a ki aura surrounding them. Is this an excess or overflow of ki that is pouring out of them?

Third, when characters are preparing an attack such as when Goku uses Kaioken or when Gohan was charging his Kamehameha against Cell and they have a ki torrent rushing around them what is this, are they gathering more energy for the attack or is the ki a result of the power they're emitting from the attack?
I think it's like this...

First, it could possibly be the ki they already have... but I'm basing that theory from the DBZ fighting games out there... like the Budokai series... When you power up in the game, your aura seems to multiply. Or it could even be while powering up... for example, King Piccolo in Dragon Ball.

Second, probably an excess, because in Dragon Ball, the characters were weak, and didn't have auras. But once everyone matured and the threats became larger (DBZ), the characters got stronger and maybe it was hard to keep all of the ki suppressed within... a character I could name for this would probably be the likes of Gogeta. In Fusion Reborn, you can actually see his aura going high into like, the heavens. And SS4 Gogeta... man... he has like these little "stars" scattered around in his aura. Maybe the ki's like a form of sunlight? And since he has so much ki, I guess the aura compacts and forms small "stars"! xD

And third, I guess it varies. If you're charging up a nice, big Kamehameha, I guess the aura is due to you gathering more energy for the attack. An example for this is when SS2 Gohan charges up a Kamehameha to shoot at Bojack, in movie 9, and when SS2 Gohan released the Kamehameha, and killed Cell, you can notice that his aura completely vanished, as he returned to his normal form. For Kaio-ken, Goku just said "Kaio-ken" for the Kaio-ken attack, and then his aura grew drastically larger, when he was saving Gohan and Krillin from Nappa's "surprise attack" in the Saiyan saga. But hey... those're just my weird guesses. lol Hope that brought somewhat of a more interesting dish to the table! :D

Well aside from being a visual representation for someone powering up, and a nice added affect. In a storyline context I always saw the visible auras (the sort that lift up rocks and even dent the ground)as being the result of the fighter drawing his ki towards his limbs and outer areas of the body in order to use it to strengthen his physicals attacks, increase his speed, be able to shoot out ki attacks with greater ease and even reinforce his body to take greater blows. In the case with stronger fighters, the simple act of bringing out a portion of their energy to the surface would have it over flowing so that, it's visible as a field of energy around their bodies. I suppose some of it (the part of the aura that's near the body) dose get collected while they're gathering ki for an attack, while the rest just flows out as wasted energy.
