You can not decide how people should react as someone makes "jokes" about their personal beliefs, and what their reactions are reflecting (such as you guessed "insecureness"). It's not your place to do that.NeptuneKai wrote:If someone is that insecure about their religion to take that little stupid blurb as a personal attack I say fuck em'.Rocketman wrote:Let's not bring religious wars on here.NeptuneKai wrote:Because the bible is filler too.
And as religion is personal, and some people easily offended, let's not poke that bear, okay?
Let's discuss Dragonball, and keep religion out of it as much as possible,
(That combination has been shown being a terrible mess before, believe me).
Non- Garlic Jr. EPIC lines:Casual Matt wrote:Eh, the FUNi dub of the Garlic Junior Arc still has the best line from anything ever:
Krillin: I dunno, Piccolo, that plan sounds pretty half baked to me.
Piccolo: I assure you, it's fully baked.
Top notch.
Piccolo: Is it over?
Vegeta: Not until the fish jumps!
Vegeta. It's over.

"insecurness" isn't a word. If people are so insecure about their little religion and go "SOME GUI MADE A SENTENCE FRAGMENT SOMEWHAT REGARDING MY RELIGION!!11 I MUST QUOTE JOHN 3:89 and ARGUE WITH HIM NOA!!!" I'm not going to take them seriously simple as that. It's very much my place to do that actually.Wojak wrote:You can not decide how people should react as someone makes "jokes" about their personal beliefs, and what their reactions are reflecting (such as you guessed "insecureness"). And also, I'm not born with English as my mother language, so cut me some slack, will ya? Trying my best here.
Also, your typing is awful.
EDIT: Insecurity, that's what I meant. I had it within me all the time. I am so happy.
And also, I'm going to stick with it not being in your place to tell people not getting offended.

Of course I am mocking you. You type worse than a high-school student. From my country! Where we aren't teached in English!
I may not be the best, but you lie waaay down the scale.

Nah you seem to be making an ass of yourself just fine without my aid. Your lack of reading comprehension and grammatical skills speak for themselves, also I may not have spelled your name right but at least I can properly use quotes.
Edit: Anyway this thread served its purpose and I got a few lulz, Mr.EX you can lock this or do whatever you please.

Yeah you have a point, I didn't realize how many foreign countries I was offending by comparing their religion to Namek filler. I actually hate that 4th wall breaking line. It'd be hilarious in a fan parody, but it just seemed so out of place to me in an "official" adaptation. Maybe it's just because I was so familiar with the movie before the english DVD came out (I got it back in '99 or 2000, so I'd probably seen it a dozen times), but I always liked the in-universe approach the original had. Everyone wonders about Piccolo and Vegeta. We cut to them sitting grumpily on this rock, and the tension is broken by this random fish jumping. End film. The SNL take on it the dub took just felt kinda off to me.Wojak wrote:Non- Garlic Jr. EPIC lines:

Vegeta. It's over.
Never gets too old.
Since Vegeta really wouldn't know that "The Fish" was going to be jumping in order to signal credits, the scene just feels like an outtake of Chris Sabat cracking a joke to himself. And they happened to leave it in the final cut.
And on the religion stuff... I was really just cracking a joke about Kuririn coming across a sleeping giant doing absolutely nothing to no one, deciding he wants his dragon ball, and proceeding to victimize the giant.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
I agree that the fish jumping would be funny too in silence. Unfortunately, I haven't watched the original yet, so I can't compare.Onikage725 wrote:I actually hate that 4th wall breaking line. What I think about those lines in the dub, is tthat they are so funny because of them being out-of-character.
Piccolo would never ask Vegeta such a question, and for Vegeta saying "not until the fish jumps", it's really out of character too.
And then the fish actually jumps, with Vegeta quickly saying: "It's over", like he wasn't really expecting that.
But I am also that guy that likes dry humor

About that "Haven't you ever heard the story of David and Goliath?" line, I find it intriguing how people would complain about this line back in the day. However, in DBZ movie 5's Japanese version when Coola says he wants to crucify Goku, no-one questions the sense of that line. I just find that interesting, go on.saiyanprincess wrote:I'm not sure but I think David and Goliath

Shot in the dark.... it's probably because crucifixion is widely known as a barbaric/'evil' method of executing the death penalty.Conan the SSJ wrote:About that "Haven't you ever heard the story of David and Goliath?" line, I find it intriguing how people would complain about this line back in the day. You probably know better then I but isn't crucifying merely a form of torture,it doesn't really need to have any religious context does it?Conan the SSJ wrote:About that "Haven't you ever heard the story of David and Goliath?" line, I find it intriguing how people would complain about this line back in the day. Source - Wikipedia.com:
Crucifixion (from Latin crucifixio, noun of process crucifixio, from perfect passive participle crucifixus, fixed to a cross, from prefix cruci-, cross, + verb ficere, fix or do, variant form of facere, do or make )[1]is an ancient method of execution, whereby the condemned person is tied or nailed to a large wooden cross (of various shapes) and left to hang until dead.
It was in use particularly among the Persians, Seleucids, Carthaginians, and Romans from about the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD, when in the year 337 Emperor Constantine I abolished it in his empire, out of veneration for Jesus Christ, the most famous victim of crucifixion.[2][3] It has sometimes been used even in modern times.
Seems like it was a non-religious excecution.

I knew that, but why would it be an issue for Cooler to say it then if it is just a form of torture? David and Goliath is a biblical story therefore aliens shouldn't know of it. However crucifixion is just a form of torture that is probably universal, you could argue he shouldn't know the term but then you'd have to argue the fact that he knows Japanese too if you want to bring that type of realism into it.Rocketman wrote:Wait...you guys seriously didn't know that?Wojak wrote:Seems like it was a non-religious excecution.
Edit: In fact Christianity doesn't even really exist in the Dragonworld does it?
