I remember once looking Dragon Ball on the internet in it's heyday. I was terrified.People were so fascinated about this thought that there was a Japanese version out there that went far beyond what we got and was so different.

lol I didn't particularly care. But then, when I was in 6th grade and my parents came home from Manhattan (living in Brooklyn) and they took out Dragon Ball Z Legends and Final Bout... Man, I think that's what really made me fascinated with the Japanese version. I loved those two games. And at that point, I was in DBZ frenzy. I got the games like the weekend where the very next episode would be the first time Goku would become Super Saiyan in the US. Man, I was so in love with that show.
Madman is Australian based - no region based DVD players here now, but used to be PAL only (except the PS3) - hence the PAL format.laserkid wrote:Just to throw in my own two cents on the current topic divergence, the main problem for someone in the USA buying the Madman releases is -NOT- regions, its the PAL format. US televisions run on NTSC, a different format of video. To work with the madman releases, you need a region free DVD player and either a TV that plays PAL video, or a PAL to NTSC converter of some sort. Now if you have an HDTV this is less of an issue, since its a digital thing, but if its an old tube TV, this still applies.
Its great to see the release of the bricks has brought on some new fans!

I don't really know much about NTSC and PAL differences, but do the Madman releases speed up audio and video to fit the PAL frame rate? I wouldn't want to purchase them if they did.Minigt wrote:Madman is Australian based - no region based DVD players here now, but used to be PAL only (except the PS3) - hence the PAL format.laserkid wrote:Just to throw in my own two cents on the current topic divergence, the main problem for someone in the USA buying the Madman releases is -NOT- regions, its the PAL format. Everytime I see the rumor about Lion's Gate's license runing out in 2010 the person who says it either doesn't have a source or gives Wikipedia as their source, and the statement on Wiki doesn't have a source. Pretty sure it's just a baseless rumor.JulieYBM wrote:I don't recall Lance telling me the Lion's Gate rumor to be true.
