Just saying :P

To add to the conversation though, I can with certainty say that FUNimation won't fix anything for the television series Blu-ray releases. The DVD's have sold fine, and I'm sure once Blu-ray saturation reaches their target demographic they'll sell plenty of Blu-rays also. Sadly, no one cares that DVNR destroys the picture.

Not to be off topic, but I noticed that the member who posted that comment is relatively new.

Why would you say that they would not fix anything? People are complaining about it and they are well known issues. Also, if they address these issues, then that gives more people a greater incentive to buy the Blu-Ray release, even if they had already purchased the sets on DVD.

True, you just sounded like you were moderating the topic, so I simply interjected. No big deal either way.

We are talking about the same releases, right? Where they took out 20% of the footage arbitrarily?

To give another reason though, I say they won't fix anything because it's cost prohibitive. The two choices for fixing the "disappearing lines syndrome" would be a frame-by-frame restore (which is very expensive, and could be disastrous), or a new telecine with less DVNR applied (which is also expensive, not to mention it's a step backwards).

Honestly, most fans of the season sets wouldn't care about a restoration and would buy the Blu-rays based solely on it being DragonBall Z. Heck, they buy the season sets in records numbers after all. So, no need for FUNimation to invest more.

Well they went back and redid some episodes on Seasons 6 and 7 which kept the grain and fixed the lines so...

They re-released seasons 6 and 7? Otherwise I don't get what you mean by "redid."

In the trailers for those sets there were missing lines and the colors were off. For the actual release they fixed that.

Here you will find comparison screen shots of the trailer and final release for Season 6. As you will notice, the trailer has missing lines and is too dark, while the final release has no missing lines and the colors are corrected. The final release also has visible grain, while the trailer is somewhat blurry.

Yi Xing Long wrote:You don't know that for sure since the video has been downscaled to standard definition. We don't know what process they used to do this, so the HD release should not be as blurry and should be able to show more detail. Only time will tell, so we will have to wait until its release to find out.
This doesn’t make any sense. Most of the time, downscaling produces sharper-looking images than the source. So, if the DVD is blurry, the BD will likely be blurrier.

Please read Rule #3:
RULE # 3: "ESSENTIAL" POSTING
You don't need to have a post in every thread. When you first sign up, you may be tempted to go through every single thread and add in something to get your two cents in. Before you post, ask yourself... are you offering anything new to the conversation that hasn't come before? Are you providing information others may not know? If the answer is "no" to either of these questions, re-evaluate whether or not you should reply. Saying nothing other than "I agree" or "Yes" isn't really helping anyone. A post that is only one line long is not a post. If you don't have more than that to say, you don't have ANYTHING to say. Furthermore, posting some kind of (non)"witty" image ("A Wizard Did It" or "Big Ban Attack", etc.) is also not a post.
You have to explain why you think it is worth it to buy the item, otherwise your post is considered spam.
I like to go straight to the point.

Blu-ray picture and sound > dvd.

simple fact if you aint poor and you can afford the best then go for the best no questions asked.

I own the TV Specials and the first two movies on Blu-Ray, and I love them. DBZ in the highest picture quality I have ever seen it. Also they are a good deal at 25$ a pop(any one remember paying 20-25$ on the movie singles from Funi), they are also somewhat future proof compared to the DVDs. The reason I decided to collect the Hi-def versions, was because I own all the singles and did not want to buy the same movies again on DVD.
