I don't mind even if its' bad. My PSP could use some new games as the tail-end of 08 has been pretty dry for the handheld.
Can Atari publish this in North America? I doubt they can under their same contract because that's from FUNi. But I guess Atari could...

"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
Namco-Bandai's publishing it. No developer was mentioned.omegacwa wrote:Since it is made by the same people, my assumption is that it will be a Shin Budokai clone just with cartoonafied versions of the movie characters, plus some other Dragonball characters just for the hell of it, with an even more simplified battle system.

I don't know how you can take a guess at whether it will be good or not with a shot of a fist, so people should just quit whining 'till we see some screens.Tsukento wrote:I don't know how many problems there are with that sentence.SSj Kaboom wrote:Nice, looks like another promising PSP DragonBall game.
It's not that I'm saying it'll be bad.
1) As you said, there's absolutely nothing in regards to info aside from the fact that it's coming to the PSP next year and Namco-Bandai's publishing it. That's it. Making a claim that it'll be promising is ridiculous due to the fact that there's no info. It's on the same level as everyone getting overly excited about Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3 when hardly any info's been released (although FFXIII ended up with FMVs being shown).
2) Promising and PSP game don't exactly go well together, considering the handheld's track record. It's not a bad piece of hardware, but the software has always been terribly lacking, especially mostly in quality.

Both the Shin Budokai games have been great. If this game uses anything close to the same system, then I'd bet it'll turn out good too.

A good chunk of movie-based games that don't suck exist in the NES, SNES and Genesis days. Games like Disney movie games (Aladdin, The Lion King) or even Batman and Batman Returns.B wrote:I think it will suck.
Games based on movies, save for the Spider-Man films, always suck.

I beg to differ. SB1 was pretty good, but SB2... let's just say that the story mode is the most important part of any DB game for me.SSj Kaboom wrote:Both the Shin Budokai games have been great. If this game uses anything close to the same system, then I'd bet it'll turn out good too.

It it more for the way the story is presented or the actual story?
Me, I'd rather have Neo's "every fight possible" approach over Meteor's "really awesome cutscene, although there's only a few of them" style.

Fighting someone as one character, winning and then seeing the character lose in the following cutscene was stupid. Then having to fight one person as every character in the arc in separate fights was too damn tedious and extremely annoying, as well as a huge time waster.
If Vegeta loses to Bojack in the movie, why the hell should it matter if I lose a match against Bojack with Vegeta?

That can be easily fixed by having you play as the character who is supposed to win. Unless it's one of those really hard fights and if you win you unlock something.Tsukento wrote:Are you nuts?Anonymous Friend wrote:Me, I'd rather have Neo's "every fight possible" approach over Meteor's "really awesome cutscene, although there's only a few of them" style.

What I hate even worse are those fights in Sparking where I'm just supposed to survive the fight, so I "survive" by winning, but it tells me that I failed for winning and makes me re-do it.Tsukento wrote:Are you nuts?Anonymous Friend wrote:Me, I'd rather have Neo's "every fight possible" approach over Meteor's "really awesome cutscene, although there's only a few of them" style.

Uh, I'm talking about Neo where you're FORCED to play as a row of different characters against one main character in separate fights, one by one.Anonymous Friend wrote:That can be easily fixed by having you play as the character who is supposed to win. If you lose the match, even when the character loses in the show, you don't get the win. Regardless if I play as Gohan for the last fight against Bojack, if I lose playing with Piccolo or Vegeta, I do not advance to the next stage.

The bolded way. Let's face it, the story mode is the main meat of any DBZ game that has one.Sure, there's customisng and tournaments, but the story mode is the main part of the game, and the way it is presented does make a diference. The actual story in the game is just repeating existing material, so presentation is evrything in a story mode.Anonymous Friend wrote:Seconded.Innagadadavida wrote:Really!?The Tori-bot wrote: I beg to differ. And SB2's sucked.
The fighting was okay, but that "Aura Burst" shit was extremely annoying: "Hah, I just hit you with a Genki-Dama, you're dead meat, sucka!! Oh, no, wait, you were using the Auru Burst charge, you didn't take any damage!"
Plus, the game gives you no hint as to how to actually utilise the Aura Burst shiz-a-ma-jizz.

I guess that's one way to look at it. I would like to play these games for the actual fighting but Sparking is only fun in bursts and the Budokais only give me a taste of what I'm looking for in fighting games. Super DBZ was awesome. but lacked variety and modes. Once I unlocked everyone and got them pretty high levels, there wasn't much left for me to do by mself. I didn't have anyone to play it with. The Tori-bot wrote:The bolded way. I do find myself going back to Sparking when I feel the urge to play thru the show.
