The bold words are where I'm getting my theory from. Seems like a polite way of saying he wasn't too fond of it.
That's not even a direct quote from Akira Toriyama, he could have worded it in a different way.

Still, that's a whole lot of speculating out of basically nothing.

I've really got to agree there, you're reading too far into a very vague quote that as far as we know isn't verbatim.

Last time I checked, this Forum does nothing but read deeper into every last detail of the Franchise. ;)

True...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I've got to re-quote what I said a few posts back...
Toriyama is a Movie Buff and a fan of Hollywood. So odds are he enjoyed seeing his franchise get to this point.
To be completely honest. As much as I hate the Movie. It makes me feel happy that the franchise I love is getting a Hollywood adaption made of it. It really is a huge step.

So what if he is just being polite and really thinks it sucks? I don't see why anyone would care either way. So he said something not incredibly assholish to the cast and crew's faces. Big deal.

True...
... But this is doing whatever it takes to twist the franchise's creators opinions into your own, so as to "prove" that it's right.

Really, whether or not Toriyama likes it isn't something that concerns YOUR opinion, and whoever he "sides" with isn't the "right" one. To try and take his statements and use them in that way is not very "shonen".

I'm not putting him down for it. It just seemed so stereotypical. :(

You'll have to forgive me, but I say what's on my mind. That's how I felt about his statement.

I've gotta agree, I couldn't give two shits about what Toriyama thinks about this movie because I'm still gonna go see it. I really don't need his approval to validate the fact that I want to go see this.

I'd have a better grasp on the context if there was a direct quote.

"Surprised" is pretty much a neutral term. Kind of like the word "interesting". I can see it being taken either way.

Having his approval, to me, makes things a little better, actually. I was already planning on seeing the movie and I was keeping an open mind, but for some reason the fact that he isn't openly disapproving makes the movie a little less embarrassing.

Either way, he's gonna get paid

I'm just wondering if Toei looks at this movie to be an opportunity to remake the series, similar to how other series have been updated over the years (Dr. Slump, Astro Boy, Lupin III)

Why would Toriyama's opinion affect your perception of the movie?, I personally would rather form my own opinion.

Yeah, it really wouldn't surprise me if someday they decided to redo the series.

I would appreciate it if they did it before all of the Seiyuu die :(.

Yeah, I often think that if they are going to do more, that they need to do it soon.

I can't bear the thought of someone replacing Nozawa.

The thought makes me  .

I hope Ms. Nozawa continues to be in good health.

Does she have any relatives who are also seiyuu?
