I think it was around the Cell Game/start of Buu.

Nah I thought that too but he still has the high pitched growl going on. It sounds like it's slowly starting to fade away in the Majin Vegeta clip but it's still there.

Post-Rosat Cell saga.

*reads rest of the thread*

Then after he comes back from the dead to help Goku. That's when he first got his current, deep voice.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I kinda think "Crushed and thrown to the wind" feels more discarded than "blown to bits"... and more metaphorical and poetic and such. Heh. I guess Vegeta being anything resembling poetic is a bit odd... but "I'LL BLOW YOU TO PIECES!" is obnoxious by comparison. (I guess we can blame the Budokai Tenkaichi games for that, though... taking an annoyingly rough-sounding line and replaying it every time the attack is performed ... makes me like "throw you to the wind" much, much better).

... I don't like Vegeta. :P I haven't heard his Japanese voice at all points in the series, but I can't say what I've heard is particularly helpful... I think I blame the Cell Saga. XD

(While Vegeta yelling at Goku and calling him "clown" all the time doesn't make me like him better... I think it does something for both characters in that Vegeta is clearly pissed off that Goku clowns around all the time and still surpasses him. Does this screw up anything from the original? I recall reading some topic on it a while back... :? )

Does Goku really "clown" around? He doesn't take everything as seriously as others, but he trains all the time.
