That's always how I pictured it was like. No ACTUAL funeral. Like not having a funeral is a sign of respect for Goku's constant fun-loving nature.
Exactly; they basically skipped directly to the wake, only it was one of those party/optimistic wakes.

@Satan-sama: Why bother giving Shenlong a moment's respect? With the exception of being rudely wakened from his sleep so that he could do the impossible by literally granting all our wishes, what the hell did that 70-foot reptile ever do for us? :P

The first time I heard of the black armband concept was in Gremlins 2, where Gizmo wore one after the old Chinese guy died.

Who knows? Shenlong would probably have un-decomposed their bodies for them, but I guess no one knew that back then since it hadn't been tried before. Even Toriyama might not have considered it yet. Also remember that Goku, with his body in the afterlife, didn't appear back on Earth when they wished him back.

I remember black armbands with the initials 'EG' being worn by tons of WWE wrestlers when Eddie Guerrero passed away.

Skipped? The Wake comes first and them the funeral/burying.

Says who? Wakes can be before the funeral, between the funeral and burial, or after the burial. You can even have more than one wake. More and more you see two being the most common: the mourning kind prior to or after the funeral, and the optimistic remembering/party after the burial. My mom's was like this.

Also, the reason I said "skipped" is because it seems they did just that: they held no funeral or burial.

I see, I'm more used to having a Wake with a casket viewing and then the burying follows. Of course in Goku's case there is no body.
