For a change I'd like to see a well-made 3D Dragonball adventure game(with some RPG elements like leveling up and collecting items to power-up). The main character is Goku (obviously) and the game starts with a little cut scene or whatever of Goku meeting Bulma and the explanation of why the DB's should be collected, and naturally the aim is (at first to collect all the DB's) to just go along with what the story tells you to do like in games like Shenmue, it's a fixed story. The way items like the Dragon Radar are used would benefit your searching, and even though this type of game could easily stray away from how the story really should go, it won't, as the way the manga tells the story is the way the game will have to end up.
The first section of the game would be mainly adventure/platform type stuff, with the fighting elements joined in where needed, like where you have to protect the sea turtle, then venturing through the wilderness untill you reach sea, you meet Roshi, he brings you Kintoun, you gain a new type of item which you can easily soar through the air with and speed up using the right analogue stick or whatever, still even though you now have the ability to go anywhere in this huge world, you can't just move to certain parts of the map, or leave the area of the game you are in (again like in Shenmue). The main aspect of the game which needs to be at its best is the fighting, and the way Goku moves, since this is the only thing that could ruin gameplay, I figure if enough attention is put into this, the game would be a hit whether the story stays on point or not.
Now if everything in Dragonball was to be covered, then for the game to last the entirety of the original DB series would be a lot, so I would expect certain scenes to just be mentioned in a cutscene if it's not that significant to gameplay, the main fruits of the game would be the fighting first, then exploring, and much of the exloring would be pretty easily with the radar and Bulma, but just by being present in the pretty forests, deep seas or bustling cities would make searching for the DB's all the better, the graphics would have to be impressive for this. I could see great potential for a type of game like this, and even simple encounters from even one-time characters that appear during the series would be enough settle most fans (even the fight Goku has against that Bruce-Lee lookalike when he first visits Metro West).
The Tenkaichi Budokai is where the real fighting would take place, and where you would have to be good at the game to win. You could easily train for practice, anywhere you see fit, you may be in the middle of a forest and want to use tree's as target practice for jumping from tree to tree(or enemy to enemy in a real fight) and watching the trees collapse after you bounce off them would look really good if done properly. I mentioned exp points, but really they won't be used as doing things like tree hopping (to practice multiple enemy strikes), or actually attaking trees and reducing them to blocks of wood would be quite hard to get used to so the actual practice you get while doing these tasks is all the experience you'll need.
Goku can get powerful to only a certain extent, and that would be the max power he can achieve relative to what part of the story you are at (eg. if you still haven't entered the 1st TB then you won't be able to get as strong as you would after competing in the next TB if you get what I'm saying). All the Ki attacks will at some point make entrance, and if all the cool aspects of the DB series can be made into tools to make this game better they would work because it really would be cool to do things like fire blasts strong enough to split sea, or demolish mountains, or fly a yellow cloud at speeds faster than any moving thing in a video game can go.
It may be a bit too advanced for a movie to recreate these things and not go over the films budget, but in a video game anything is possible, and I would prefer this type of game instead of constant beat-em-ups getting thrown at us or basic RPG's.
Also, for platform release, it would be PS3 and 360 straight, I do agree the Wii remote is a good tool and has potenial, but you can only use it for so much, the Nyoibou is the only item that would make the most sense to match it with, apart from that there's not much else the PS3 or Xbox controlers can't do, and those systems can run better graphics.

I think that a Wii release of that game makes more sense than a next-gen release, especially from a business point of view. First of all, the development costs for Wii games is lower that next-gen, which means that creating this game is less of a risk for the wii. Second of all, the graphics aren't as good which is less time the developers have to spend on modeling and texturing. That's not to say that they should be lazy about it, the Wii can produce some pretty great looking games (see Super Mario Galaxy). Third, there are more Wii owners than next-gen console owners, therefore the market is bigger. Not to mention the possibilities of controlling the Powerpole and nimbus with the Wiimote, maybe even motion plus.Bejiita wrote:Also, for platform release, it would be PS3 and 360 straight, I do agree the Wii remote is a good tool and has potenial, but you can only use it for so much, the Nyoibou is the only item that would make the most sense to match it with, apart from that there's not much else the PS3 or Xbox controlers can't do, and those systems can run better graphics.
Oh, gee... I broke my own rule of "Don't go for realism, go for idealism." I'm sorry. That sounds like a truly fun game, and to be honest I'd love to see it on any system.
I'd like to do four games. One for DB and three for DBZ. For the first game, the playable characters would be:
Kid Goku
Yamcha
Kame-Sen'nin
Kuririn
Tenshinhan
Adult Goku
Chi-Chi
These characters would only be playable in tournament mode:
Namu
Taopaipai
Piccolo Daimao
Piccolo Jr.
It would be a side-scroller, like Advance Adventure, but in 3D. You would start out as Goku, and unlock the other characters when you defeat them. Each character would have unlockable alternate costumes.
For the second game, the characters would be:
Goku
Piccolo
Gohan
Kuririn
Yamcha
Tenshinhan
Vegeta
Tournament mode only characters would be:
Raditz
Nappa
Zarbon
Dodoria
Captain Ginyu
Butta
Jheese
Nail
Freeza
The gameplay would be the same as the first. When you beat the game, you could play through Goku's levels as a Super Saiyan. Zarbon and Freeza's transformations would be alternate costumes.
Third game characters would be:
Future Trunks
Gohan
Goku
Vegeta
Piccolo
Tournament mode only characters:
Freeza
Kuririn
Androids 16-18
Cell (all forms)
Like the second, you can play through Gohan's levels as a SS2 when you beat the game.
Fourth game characters:
Gohan
Kuririn
Videl
Vegeta
Android 18
Gotenks
Vegerot
Fat Boo
Tournament mode only characters
Goten
Trunks
Piccolo
Shin
Spopovich
Dabra
Evil Boo
Super Boo
Mystic Boo
Kid Boo
Oob
Skinny Boo would be an alternate costume for Evil Boo.
The system would be XBox 360.
First game title: Dragon Ball 360
Second game title: Dragon Ball Z: Battle for the Universe
Third game title: Dragon Ball Z: Android Terror
Fourth game title: Drazon Ball Z: The Boo Wars
Kid Goku
Yamcha
Kame-Sen'nin
Kuririn
Tenshinhan
Adult Goku
Chi-Chi

Earlier in this thread I mentioned an Arcade Mode in a fantasy Super DBZ 2 that doesn't necessarily follow the story, but adds some context to why everyone is fighting. At the time, I didn't have an example, but now I do.
Anyone here played Shin Budokai 2 (Another Road)? At the end of the arcade mode, everyone has their own ending and the idea is, like I was suggesting, that it's a tournament. It doesn't really follow the story too hardcore (meaning I can fight Future Gohan, Chou Gohan, and Cell Game Era SSj2 Gohan all in the same go-thru) but everyone does basically stay in character and there's a little blurb at the end getting the character's reactions to winning and such that are true to their personalities.
For example, when you finish with Goku, he invites everyone out for a big meal that he's using the prize money to pay for.
So, yeah, in a Super DBZ 2, I'd like to see some context similar to Arcade Mode in Shin Budokai 2.

Well truthfully, I went for the 360 and PS3 purely as those systems can provide better graphics and hold more space, but saying that the wii is a next gen system, so it should easily be possible to make this game for the wii and it being as good or better than the other 2 consoles, in the end, I would also like to see this type of game on whichever console as it would be wicked! Good points you bring up about the wii being more popular than the Ps3 and 360, on the business side it actually would benefit more as you say.Innagadadavida wrote:I think that a Wii release of that game makes more sense than a next-gen release, especially from a business point of view. I was raised on games like Super Butouden and RPG's like Legend Of Super Saiyan, Super Goku and I must mention Chrono Trigger...... The new era games on PS2, Wii or Xbox are awesome, but still, I love that retro, drawn style of 16-bit consoles.
My ideal game will be in style of Mugen, with 16-bit sprites and modes like:
- Story
- versus
- Tenkaichi Budokai
- Survival
- Missions
- Gallery
- Music
- Options
I don't wanna some ultimate roster, but there will be set of games and each game will be different saga oriented.
There can be:
Dragon Ball - The Begining (Goku - 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai Arc)
Dragon Ball - Demon Assault (Piccolo Daimao - 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai/Piccolo Jr. Arc)
Dragon Ball Z - Earth Saviors (Saiya-jin Arc)
Dragon Ball Z - Galaxy Defenders (Namek/Freeza Arc)
Dragon Ball Z - Wrath Of Technology (Androids/Cell Arc)
Dragon Ball Z - Demon Revival (Majin Buu Arc)
Dragon Ball GT - Final Climax (All the GT arcs)
Each game will have diferent sprites, that will be as same as in the series and manga and have different costumes (revolution in 2D game), but not some silly color changes, but changes of clothes as they're have in series.
Sprite for each character will be in the same style in all game titles, or will be designed after how he looks in the sagas, as the series and manga progressed.

This wouldn't exactly be an "ultimate game" I'd think of, but I would definitely pick something up like it. I'd like a pure GT video game, made in a very similar style to Budokai Tenkaichi 2/Sparking! NEO (though retaining some Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking! 1 elements, like a great ape form being its own selectable fighter that can serve more than one of the characters in the story mode). The story mode itself would cover the full GT series, from the Black-Star Dragonballs journey to the Baby saga, Super 17 scuffle, Shadow Dragons arc, and even the era of Goku Jr.
I've mapped it out more-or-less and there can be at least 45 characters/83 forms (counting Fusions/Mergings), including a What-If Fusion featuring Adult Gotenks! This would be a fighter designed much like Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the most part, though with much more detailed finishers like in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, essentially being a game devoted entirely to GT. With all that said, here are the fighters I'd include (w/t transformations & fusions/mergings):
(For the record, all fighters previously in Z would be featured in their GT era looks/ages, so imagine 'em like that and please forgive the use of dub names)

So I don't have to make a new thread for something so "WTF?"...
... Play as Bulma all the way through the series. Does she do amazing feats of engineering to save the day? Or does she become a whore who travels the galaxy on her vagina? You decide!
Pretending someone else wrote the above...
... A sagas that didn't Freeze when someone uses supermoves, somehow had a means of letting me determine the landscape, and was a bit more creative and with a broader scope. So ok, I made a thread for this idea since I put a lot into it, but when I got to the parts I actually wanted to do it crapped out, so...ur... *shrug*. I wound up putting more emphasis on the earliest DB stuff, when I wanted to focus on the 22nd Tournament - Freeza time period. Probably because there's more room to do fun stuff when trying to fit Early DB into sagas-style gameplay...
A Sagas-esque Buu Saga game... if it can be done anywhere near anything resembling well, then yay, but... Buu's Fury set the bar rather high.
