I'm curious if she really does that in the original or not. I know she calls him "homeboy" in the dub and says he's "kinda cute." I haven't gotten around to finding the original version of that for comparison. Anybody know?Rocketman wrote:Bulma hits on Vegeta right after he brags about slaughtering a Namekian village, less than a week after he attempted to kill her, and a little over a month after he murdered half the cast.

Well, technically, Vegeta didn't kill anyone in the cast.Rocketman wrote:Bulma hits on Vegeta right after he brags about slaughtering a Namekian village, less than a week after he attempted to kill her, and a little over a month after he murdered half the cast.

Perhaps he facilitated some of their deaths, but he never personally killed any of the heroes.
And Nappa only technically killed Piccolo. Tenshinhan and Chaozu killed themselves.
Yamcha was killed by act of Saibamen, which is not included in life insurance policies, despite my protests.

That's not Valley Girl. That's more sterotypical white guys using slang black guys use and not sounding so good at it, but not valley. You want Valley Girl, chick who tells Goku where policeman is was Valley Girl. Though in a weird way, it kinda fits since the episode came out in what, 1987-88?penguintruth wrote:I don't know, I felt like Bulma felt dumber in the Funimation dub, and they gave her a lot of lines she didn't originally have. She didn't try to "cool it up" in the Japanese like in the dub. It didn't help that Tiffany Vollmer made her into a valley girl.
"Hey, homeboy!"
But, I guess she's still a pretty shrill bitch in either. I still love her, though.

It's not so much the dialogue, but Tiffany Vollmer's voice itself for the role that sounds Valley Girl-like.Super Sonic wrote:That's not Valley Girl. I recently read that part in the manga. She tells everyone to stay at her place, adds that Vegeta should too, and then jokingly tells him not to try anything. The way it played out seemed flirtatious to me, though that is debatable and not quite as blatant as saying he was cute.saiyangerl wrote:I'm curious if she really does that in the original or not. Lalainia Lindbjerg, loved her since Mermaid's Scar and Ronin Warriors and much preferred her as Bulma.Super Sonic wrote:Preferred the cute Scandanavian-Canadian lady from the first 2 seasons who was on Gundam Seed Destiny?

I tracked down some manga I could read online since that peaked my interest in the differences between the manga and the anime and I found that part. It's actually quite funny. Funnier than her saying "homeboy" and calling him "kinda cute." I still like the dub but I can appreciate the manga too.Onikage725 wrote:I recently read that part in the manga. Penguin, you forget this was some of her earliest work. Though to be fair, of all the cast, she improved the least.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Here's Vollmer as Bulma in Dragon Ball GT.

I don't think so from me, but given your stance it's likely you've had this altercation before with someone else. However, I may have at one point. Also, Sabat sounds absolutely horrendous in that clip.

Same here. I'd rather watch a show in my own language.Baby Naruto wrote:I love FUNimation's English Dub and only watch FUNimation's English Dub because I grew up watching it, plus I only watch anime english dubbed anyways.
Really, I just look at shows as standalone shows. I don't look at the version of DBZ that I saw growing up as some dub of a show. I look at it as well, the show that I loved growing up. And honestly, as a standalone show, the DBZ dub is pretty good. As a dub of another show, though, it's okay. Now something like 4Kids' One Pieve dub is terrible as a standalone show and abysmal as a dub of a show.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

There are certain shows that I'll watch dubbed, and the other subbed. It's really a preference as to which one I will watch.
Now, I used to watch DBZ only in English up until about a couple months ago. I'm now only for the original Japanese version, because honestly the voices fit so much better and there is more emotion to the series in it's original format. When I watch the dub now, it's like the overall tone now is something that Broly haters feel "GRRR TESTOSTERONE, MUST KILL, OVERPOWER!" That's how the dub feels to me now since my transition over. Also the changes that were added to the dub also made me want to go over to the Japanese version.
Yu Yu Hakusho I only watch as a dub. Reason why? Comparing the dub to the subtitles at the bottom, everything seems to even up perfectly. Obviously it isn't word for word, but it is just about, and nothing is changed around to confuse people. Plus I feel the dub voices fit the characters nicely, as do the original, and they fit the personality to each.
Bleach... this one was a fun one. I first started watching the dub, and I thought it was amazing! Up until they got to the Soul Society, and I heard Renji's voice... I hated it. So once I stopped watching the most recent English, I began watching the original Japanese at Dattebayo.com. So much better and I loved the emotion and tone. It fit so much better to me than the English ones. Now every Saturday night, I watch the dub on Adult Swim (right now they are at Hueco Mundo, and Chad got owned.)
So what factors affect me to watch a dub or sub: The emotion of the VA's, how accurate it stays to the story, and the tone either or brings to the table.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

Umm, can you give your reasons why you think otherwise? I knew that the One Piece dub was terrible as soon as I heard the theme song. It was just bad, not because it had no business being used for One Piece, but because it was just horribly cheesy. That's just my opinion.B wrote:No, it's not.jjgp1112 wrote:Now something like 4Kids' One Piece dub is terrible as a standalone show
