Grand Elder is voiced by Bill Jenkins.
He is credited as "Grand Elder (Guru)", however the script calls him only "Grand Elder", never "Guru".

Glad to see that Guru is gone! Yet another entirely made up dub name down the drain.

I think that's the only dub character name that's completely made up (that's why I hate it so much). The rest of them look somewhat like their original names (Tien, Pikkon).

When I was talking completely made up, I mean a name that isn't a romanization, Anglicization, transliteration, or translation or whatever. Tien may look somewhat similar to Tenshinhan, but the name itself was still changed, and wouldn't be said as "Tenshinhan" in Japanese, or anything similar. The same thing goes for Pikkon, which would be "Paikon" or something similar in Japanese, while names like Launch and Krillin are adequate representations of the original names.

I was just saying that FUNimation threw the original name out the window (Saichourou -- Great Elder) and made up their own random bullshit (Guru). With their other name changes, they didn't completely throw the original name out the window, so to speak. Don't get wrong though, "TIEN" and "PIKKON" are still incorrect.

Yeah, I know. I just feel like that since they are still changed, that they are in the same category to me.

Ocean Bulma may have have been a solid actress, but vocally she's pretty damn different from Monica. Monica's voice inflects in a lot of interesting ways like Hiromi Tsuru. In fact Monica can get nasally at times, it's subtle but it's there, and it again reminds me of Hiromi.

As for Funi Bulma, she had an attractive voice, but that's all she had, it lacked acting range and only captured Bulma's bratty side. While Monica's Bulma can sound attractive when the character needs to, bratty when she needs to, caring, vulnerable, sad, etc etc.

Okay uh...there might be a major fuck-up on the credits tonight, in which case one of the Ginyu Force's new VAs may still remain a mystery until tomorrow. Not 100% of that, maybe the broadcast version will have it fixed.

Man.. it's a shame that Travis Willingham was cast as Cell..

I'm not saying he's bad, he does a very good Dameon Clarke impression; but he's just that, an impression.

Everytime I heard him in Raging Blast I thought it sounded like either Dameon Clarke really just stopped giving a shit about the voice acting, or it's an impression voice.

Well maybe it's because Clarke was my favourite voice actor so it's easier for my ears to distinguish the difference.

Also, even though I am a Dub fan, I absolutely love Norio Wakamoto's portrayal of Cell. Especially his screams. His screams are fucking amazing.
If I ever met him, I wouldn't ask for an autograph, I'd ask him to just yell at me.

Funi should have tried to get another person for the role similar to Wakamoto's portrayal rather than using a Dameon Clarke imitator.

Indeed, in fact I'd say his screams were the most intense out of the entire Japanese cast. I'm a little worried that age will make him falter in Kai when he reprises Cell.

Wakamoto is amazing. His voice is 10 different kinds of awesome and win.

If I ever met him at a con, I'd ask him to shout "AMEN!" at me as loud as he can XD

Agreed, maybe in Kai they'll let Willingham be more flexible with the role and make it his own.

I don't understand why we're providing Alexander clips when clearly we should be providing Mechazawa clips.

Which game was it that Wakamoto phoned in a pretty terrible performance for? What is Sparking! METEOR...? Other than that, I've never heard him drop anything below a 110% performance.

Yeah, it was METEOR...which happens to be the only game I own. >_<

I haven't been able to find too many other clips of his work, but if it's that good in the other games...I curse my lack of money.

EDIT: I've always felt Wakamoto's best work was in Dragon Ball Z #186. My Lord, those screams...gorgeous work. He's also tied with Nozawa as the best performer of the Kamehame-Ha. It's just...an artform when he says it. Truly.

I know exactly what you're talking about! That cool echo effect thing on his voice made it epic and a half!

Good, color me relieved then, but then I shouldn't of doubted easily one of the best Japanese VAs out there. :D

Well, of course. It's Norio Wakamoto. The man was Oskar von Reuental.

Norio Wakamoto has a presence that defies reality. Every word that escapes from his mouth is less an utterance, and more a guilded path to the next world, a portal to unearthly realms disguised as human speech to fool us coarse lessers, and yet capable of shaking the foundations of our very souls.

For reference, Norio Wakamoto thinks Chuck Norris is a pussy. The voices of Kevin Conroy and Ron Pearlman are like those of little girls compared to his.

What is it about the Japanese cast that makes fans receive them like Gods among men. I mean, I understand that a good portion of this is tongue in cheek... but why is that funny? I mean, yeah they're great. But, they're just voice actors.

It's just a practice in facetious glorification and hyperbole.

That and Wakamoto does has one *hell* of a voice.

It's got nothing to do with Dragon Ball in this case. It's Wakamoto. I'm more of a Wakamoto fan than a Dragon Ball fan. But more accurately, I'm a huge anime fan in general, and Wakamoto has delivered every time, and in some of my favorite anime (Cowboy Bebop, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Giant Robo).

But yeah, what I said before is hyperbole.
