Oh man, what a great (and rather interesting) back and forth between Ooishi and Toriyama. Lots of good stuff. Funny to see that Gine is essentially a Saiyan lunch lady.SaiyaJedi wrote:I'll just be leaving this here...

Lots of interesting stuff in that interview.
-Gine going on to work at a meat distribution center (of course Planet Vegeta would have such a place XD )
-Freeza is a mutant and his race reproduces asexually
-Toriyama it's just throwing around ideas of Vegeta as the main in a new movie (The Vegeta Movie does sound fun)
-Gokû thinks of his family as companions rather than famoral relationships. Ouch. Poor Chi-Chi, Gohan, and Goten. Well that debunks any romance he and Chi-Chi may have had off-panel.

i love how toriyama-sama improvises how he wants when he wants.
About vegeta i always heard rumous about he hating his characterbut if that was true, seems like it isnt anymore.

Seems like Toriyama wants to portrait Bardock as someone who could love, and did love a woman, Gine... But I'm not sure how he can reconcile that with Bardock not giving a single s*** about their sons Raditz and Kakarot

Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
So this kinda confirms that Raditz is Goku's full brother. But also confirmed that Saiyans might have brothers that they don't know about. Kinda cool. Also just curious but when he said "No blood relationships" does that mean incest might happen?Mr. Toriyama wrote: The quartet of Bardock, Gine, Raditz, and Kakarrot make up Bardock’s family, such as it is, but all four of them were never together.
Also, I think that Bardock himself might have had siblings, but perhaps even Bardock himself doesn’t really know, and at any rate, he probably has no interest in it, either.
Saiyans don’t have much of a concept of “family”.
I thought Toriyama said that Saiyans just as long as humans in another guidebook?Mr. Toriyama wrote:Their [natural] lifespan in itself is longer than humans’, but since they are a warrior race, many of them die in battle, and their average lifespan isn’t all that long.
Pretty much the average Saiyan was BORN low class. But I'm sure most of them grow up to become strong. So I don't know what to say. Does that mean Raditz was average? I always thought Mid Class should be average with below average being low class. Made more sense to me but ok.Mr Toriyama wrote:To be honest, I haven’t thought it through that far, but Bardock is a low-class warrior. Although even saying that, almost all [Saiyans] were low-class warriors, and there were only about 10 mid-class warriors. And when you get to the elite warriors, there’s only King Vegeta and Prince Vegeta. Bardock is in the upper ranks as far as low-class warriors go, but he isn’t able to become a mid-class warrior.
Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
How do we know he didn't give a shit? Just from the Bardock special?Marco Polo wrote:Seems like Toriyama wants to portrait Bardock as someone who could love, and did love a woman, Gine... Anyway, if the issue with Saiyans is that they don't have the concept of a family built into them, then they just don't "automatically" love their family members. Bardock's bond with Gine developed through interaction, but that didn't happen with their children.
Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
So I guess that squashes the half-brother speculation for Goku and Raditz, and it seems like Toriyama doesn't really consider Episode of Bardock as part of the main story, so take of that what you will.SaiyaJedi wrote:I'll just be leaving this here...

Fair enough. Although, while there isn't any set rule for it, it really does stick out from the rest. I guess Nappa and Gine just happen to be the 1%.Herms wrote:Same reason he gave Nappa a Japanese vegetable pun: because...well, why wouldn't he? But he also said stuff about the past. So could mean that Planet Vegeta or even beyond past that. Though this might be complex for DBZ but could EOB be Bardock's personal heaven?jjgp1112 wrote:So I guess that squashes the half-brother speculation for Goku and Raditz, and it seems like Toriyama doesn't really consider Episode of Bardock as part of the main story, so take of that what you will.SaiyaJedi wrote:I'll just be leaving this here...

Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
Well, Bardock is dead regardless of Episode of Bardock (either 1/ he died in the past when Vegeta exploded or 2/ he died in the further past considering Episode of Bardock takes places hundreds of years before the present time and Saiyans don't live hundreds of years).Wobbuffet wrote:He said that Bardock is dead and Freeza and King Cold are the only membres of their "clan".Marco Polo wrote:What makes you think that?jjgp1112 wrote:it seems like Toriyama doesn't really consider Episode of Bardock as part of the main story, so take of that what you will.
Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
I'm loving all these new tidbits of info, from Toriyama himself. Like many of you I, too, always wondered who Goku's mother was, and by extention, "Queen Vegeta." I mean, can you imagine if Gohan just suddenly appeared with baby Pan at the end of DBZ, and Videl was never part of the series? Would've been a big "wtf" moment for us. Concerning "Queen Vegeta," I think it would've been cool if she was at least referenced in "Yo! Son Goku & Friends Return!!" All Tarble had to say was "Father deemed me too weak to fight, but mother spared me and sent me off to a distant star." At least acknowledge her existence, lol.
I always considered Freeza and his race as "Changelings," but I guess that isn't exactly the case anymore. Oh well.

Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
I can't wait for the OVA with the 10 mid-class warriors who go on an adventure, all become Super Saiyans, head back to Vegeta to celebrate, and are wiped out by Freeza's blast. Or, 9 warriors, I guess, since Nappa is most likely one of them?
DIdn't even register that this new information on Freeza more or less undoes Episode of Bardock. Chilled(and Coola, but you know, movies) technically cannot exist now, right?

... What does this mean? That Bardock is too weak to be resurrected, or that he is so weak there's no point in doing so because he'd never keep up with all the Super Saiyans?Toriyama wrote:But unfortunately, Bardock has been dead for quite some time, so you probably won’t be able to see him in action except in stories of the past. There is the trick of having Shenlong bring him back to life, but by this point, his battle power isn’t high enough, so methinks it’d be a bit difficult.

What you mean? Why can't Chilled be born? It is cause of his statement about Freeza and Cold's power? To be fair. Chilled isn't all that strong.B wrote:I can't wait for the OVA with the 10 mid-class warriors who go on an adventure, all become Super Saiyans, head back to Vegeta to celebrate, and are wiped out by Freeza's blast. Re: Goku's mother...appearing soon?!
I still don't see how this is 'RUINED FOREVER' material for so many of you. I just...gah. I understand how everyone can have different opinions and different things they want out of the series, but if this is all it takes to make you grow to hate one of your favorite series, then maybe you never liked it as much as you thought to begin with then?
Both things I actually wouldn't mind learning about actually. Well, more on Kuririn's past in general rather than his parents specifically, I guess.penguintruth wrote:What about Kuririn's parents? How Yamucha came to live in the desert ?
Apparently tons of people, given how a lot of people have actually been pretty thrilled about this.Who cares who Goku's mom is? She's long dead. Everybody's dead, Dave.
I dunno...just because Bardock loved a woman doesn't automatically mean those feelings would still be true for their kids. And his caring for her doesn't have to have gone to the same level as her for him either - I highly doubt he was exactly fawning over her or anything.Marco Polo wrote:Seems like Toriyama wants to portrait Bardock as someone who could love, and did love a woman, Gine... I think it's all pretty much subjective. Anyone can believe what they want, since Toriyama is seemingly making this stuff up as he goes along anyway, and obviously doesn't take it very seriously. He's just having fun with all of it, as should we
