It seems like all he is doing for the time being is a little bit of key animation for One Piece.ワンピースの原画終了…やるだけの事はやった、よい映像が出来るのを祈るのみです(^^;;

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Is that the implication that Shida isn't going to work on Dragon Ball Super for a while?

That's unfortunate. I hope he does get to do something for Super someday.

That has never stopped a show from having cuts of animation equal to or greater than those shown in an opening.garfield15 wrote:That's from the OP of Kai.mboswi wrote:When I see gifs like this one and I think about Super I just go![]()

Hey guys, where's Shida? Precure fandom seems to think he hasn't been around there lately because of Super, but I haven't seen any cuts by him in Super at all so I don't think that's the case. Is he stuck on One Piece duty? Or World Trigger for some reason? OR is he doing something for the animated portion of the annual October Precure movie?

He didn't draw any cuts in Super, but he did storyboard for a couple episodes.Chuquita wrote:Hey guys, where's Shida? Ok. That explains his absence.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:He didn't draw any cuts in Super, but he did storyboard for a couple episodes.Chuquita wrote:Hey guys, where's Shida? I hope he does eventually get to do a cut for Super. Or Go!Pri. I just feel like I haven't seen any new cuts from him in forever.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I'm not really sure that's the implication but he certainly is currently working on One Piece for an episode. Usually when Shida updates he'll mention working on multiple projects at once but this time he only said he was working on One Piece. My guess is that if he is working on anything else it's just more storyboards for Dragon Ball Super since Episode Director Mikami Masato does not or cannot draw his own storyboards. The vast majority of Shida's tweets these days are focused on his baseball commentary, so I assume he's been taking it pretty easy lately.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Is that the implication that Shida isn't going to work on Dragon Ball Super for a while?

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Oho. It seems that Episode 8 of Dragon Ball Super has two animation supervisors, Akira Kano and Masahiro Shimanuki. While I'm glad to see Shimanuki returning to the franchise's TV series as an animation supervisor, seeing that two supervisors pop up in the credit makes me wonder if the episode was rushed to correct key animators' drawings.

Yeah, production has been pretty rushed all along but having Shimanuki come in after being mostly missing in action since Fukkatsu no F probably means something is up. I do wish Episodes #6-9 had been sacrificed a lot more, though, so the extra staff and time could go into #10-12, but I suppose that's a moot point now.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Oho. In what way is something up? Is that a good or bad thing? *Is concerned.*JulieYBM wrote:Yeah, production has been pretty rushed all along but having Shimanuki come in after being mostly missing in action since Fukkatsu no F probably means something is up. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Production has been having trouble all series long but things have only gotten worse. Episode #5 had no time to be completed, Episode #6 wound up with three animation supervisors, Episode #7 had one animation supervisor and Episode #8 is back to two. The use of multiple animation supervisors is typically a sign of a production being too behind schedule. My guess is Office DCI was either brought on to provide key animation very late or they had other projects that slowed down the production on their end.Chuquita wrote:

I actually made a mistake earlier. Shimanuki was last seen as the animation supervisor and first credited key animator of One Piece Episode #697 (14 June 2015). This means he was pulled away from One Piece just to half get Dragon Ball Super Episode #8 finished on time.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
That's very worrying. ^^; I wonder how in danger of another collapse we are. I wish there was more time for them to get things done. Yesterday's Toei's Precure episode was beautiful and fluid, it had an incredible energy to its animation; I can't imagine we'll ever get animation of that high a caliber. I'm glad I enjoy Precure as much as I do, else I'd be jealous of it.JulieYBM wrote:Production has been having trouble all series long but things have only gotten worse. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Go! Princess PreCure Episode #30 had three good key animators involved, Ota Kazuhiro (also the animation supervisor), Itaoka Nishiki, and Fujii Shingo (Fujii confirmed on Twitter he will participate in the next Ota episode). World Trigger Episode #44 had even more, although nobody quite did their usual level of work (Shikama Takahiro, Tanaka Hironori, Tomita Yoshikazu, and Sugie Toshiharu). There's definitely some good freelance animators working with Toei Animation right now, they simply don't want to work on Dragon Ball Super right now.
It's a shame the production isn't able to plan ahead right now. If the staff could find a few speed animators who specialize in solo episodes and get them to work ahead of schedule while the main animation supervisors work on the immediate episodes we could finally get a surplus of time for guys like Tate Naoki to create episodes they could be proud of. Too bad that won't happen, though.

I had a feeling part of it was there isn't anyone who's both talented and a fan. I've seen Itaoka's love for Precure on his Twitter account. He enjoys drawing Precure so much he does it even on his off time. It certainly helps when you have a passion for what you're drawing.JulieYBM wrote:Go! I don't think Shimanuki was 'pulled away' just for that end, he'll probably stick with Super. He hasn't been doing much work in One Piece, anyway.JulieYBM wrote:I actually made a mistake earlier. Anyone know when we'll find out the main staff for next week's? (episode 10).
