"Complete Vegeta Saga" in Sept (w/ box art)
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
Even though I picked up three or four of the UUE's (scattered, based on what parts of the series I cared to watch), I will have no problem finding them a new owner and replacing them with this awesome and economical boxset, if it is exactly what we all figure it to be.
And, assuming that the theory that FUNImation plans to do this with the entire series, then I am overjoyed! Seems like the UUE was a last desperate attempt to make the old, crappy way, work. Good thing it didn't, so now we can get a much better approach from them in general.
One of the reasons I began collecting the Manga was because the prospect of owning the entire series on DVD seemed impossible, and although I ended up loving the Manga far more than I ever liked the Anime, this is still awesome (again, assuming the theory is correct).
Either way, there's no real reason to be that upset. It's cheap.

I meant in the number of releases it's a big month, not the QUALITY of the releases...Tsukento wrote:I wouldn't count the Broli boxset as much of a "big thing" considering it's just a boxed version of previously released movies of an overrated character.
Trust me, I think Movie 10 & 11 are garbage.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Oh god damnet. I just purchased the androids up to the cell games sagas (uncut funi). Then I see they are going to be releasing the whole series in seasons (its not speculation at this point, we all know its going to happen, you dont come out with "seasons 1 and 2" and just leave it at that). Bollocks.
Oh well. Ebay here I come.

I've been thinking the past few days about all the DragonBall Z DVD's I have, and if I would sell them or not. Well, I have decided that I am going to keep them because they are what I am used to. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably pick up the "Season's", but I have some sort of attachment to the older DVD's; in which case, I cannot seem to let go.
However, I'm, more then likely, going to sell my DragonBall VHS's once I get around to creating an eBay account. Seeing as I only have one of the Tournament Saga VHS, and then the Red Ribbon Army Boxed VHS Set. The rest are awesome DVD's, or as I call them, Boxed Saga's, which I will not get rid of.
As to stay somewhat on topic here, I'm wondering, won't "Season One" be all of the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga, which would not include anything dealing within the Namek Saga? I've heard people speculating that it will have the Saiyan/Vegeta and part of the Namek Saga, but I don't think FUNimation will just cut us off in the middle of a Saga. Thus why I think only the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga will be included.

It says it contains eps. 1-39. 1-35 is the entire Saiyan/Vegeta arc, while eps. 36-39 lead into the Namek journey (Bulma's discovery of the spaceship and whatnot)... it's a pretty good lead in to the next "saga", it ends on a cliffhanger with Kuririn's, Gohan's, & Bulma's departure.Namek'jin Ryu wrote: As to stay somewhat on topic here, I'm wondering, won't "Season One" be all of the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga, which would not include anything dealing within the Namek Saga? I also think that's where the actual first season ended way, way, way back in 1995/1996 with the "Ocean" dub. The only reason I believe this is because I remember hearing Ian Corletts voice as Goku during those episodes (36-39) way back then, although I could be horribly wrong.theoriginalbilis wrote:It says it contains eps. 1-39. 1-35 is the entire Saiyan/Vegeta arc, while eps. 36-39 lead into the Namek journey (Bulma's discovery of the spaceship and whatnot)... it's a pretty good lead in to the next "saga", it ends on a cliffhanger with Kuririn's, Gohan's, & Bulma's departure.Namek'jin Ryu wrote: As to stay somewhat on topic here, I'm wondering, won't "Season One" be all of the Saiyan/Vegeta Saga, which would not include anything dealing within the Namek Saga? ...anyone know why they are naming the Boxsets by "Season" as opposed to the previous "Saga" approach? Seems a bit odd.

I know what you mean. I have every Dragon Ball DVD released but I'm not about to re-purchase all those hundreds of episodes. I did on the other hand sell of the 9 Ultimate Uncut releases and put in a a pre-order for this new boxset and will purchase the next box which logically should complete the missing episodes I don't have.Namek'jin Ryu wrote:I've been thinking the past few days about all the DragonBall Z DVD's I have, and if I would sell them or not. There would be about 16 or so collections if FUNimation released the series by saga. Would everyone who says they are collecting the entire series buy the Garlic Jr. arc or some other saga they do not like? It makes more sense on FUNimation's part to release it in season box sets so that we are forced to collect the episodes or sagas we might not necessarily care for. Calling it a season does not make much sense because Dragon Ball Z aired weekly for roughly six years. Calling it Collection One would make more sense. Either way, I'm still buying it and then going on a DBZ binge and watch 39 episodes as quickly as possible.

Yet another excuse to collect the entire series. However, we're kinda relying too much on the possibility that FUNi's gonna release the rest of the series in this "season format." But I really hope they do...Ricochet0082 wrote:Would everyone who says they are collecting the entire series buy the Garlic Jr. arc or some other saga they do not like? Blue Gender, Kiddy Grade, Tenchi Muyo GXP, and Yu Yu Hakusho. They all are being released or have been released in full or partial DVD sets. The first three will have complete series sets and Yu Yu Hakusho will be getting condensed collections, putting 112 episodes in about eight sets. It's very likely that FUNimation will do the same with Dragon Ball Z. It's not official yet but it's a pretty strong bet that FUNimation will release their cash cow in multi-season sets.
I'm going to break out the bottle when it is officially announced! If it turns out that they are not re-releasing the complete series in this format and only the first 67 episodes, then I'll turn to the bottle for comfort.

Wow... That's exactly what I've been doing! Well, I bought them over a months (maybe a year?), and now I've got the Android, Imperfect Cell, and Perfect Cell box sets now, along with all the Gohan episodes of the Cell Games (was planning to get the earlier Cell Games eps too), and the two Trunks saga DVDs. And then this news shows. I'm bet they'll release at least most of the series as well, but I think I'll hold off on selling my current DVDs until it's confirmed. Still, the release of even just this boxset makes me extremely happy.Katalyst wrote:Oh god damnet. I just purchased the androids up to the cell games sagas (uncut funi). See? Now here's another person (Ricochet) who follows Funimation's release patterns.Ricochet0082 wrote:Blue Gender, Kiddy Grade, Tenchi Muyo GXP, and Yu Yu Hakusho. Kiddy Grade - 8 singles, followed by 4 2-disc collections, and now with an upcoming boxset release.
Tenchi Muyo GXP - same pattern as Kiddy Grade: 8 singles, followed by 4 2-disc collections, and with a complete boxset on the way.
Yu Yu Hakusho - 31 singles, followed by 6 boxset releases for each "saga", and now being released as 8 2-disc collections with about 13-14 eps. in each set (Collection One came out this Tuesday)
What makes people think that Funimation isn't going to attempt this with their biggest franchise? I mean, it's a smart move: re-releasing older franchises in cheaper formats each time to make more profit from a completed series.
Look at this:
Dragon Ball Z - 80+ singles, 8 "saga" boxsets (only certain arcs of the series), and now with upcoming "season" boxes that assure EVERY episode will be in proper order and in boxset form. Remember, Captain Ginyu, Frieza, Trunks, Cell Games, and Great Saiyaman arcs were never releases as boxsets, but this new format will ensure that they are boxed and more easily accessable.
Just my speculations, anyway.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I haven't bought any FUNi dvds because I was guessing that they would put everything out on FINAL time. Uncut, extras and more. I think we can beat this horse dead talking about this thing but we really need more information. We all just need to wait and see.masenko wrote:Is it me or is everyone on this board getting screwed somehow by this set...basically if you have bought one FUNi dvd in your lifetime, then well it sucks to be you. And that basically is all of us.
