Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
The fake grain may have always been planned, but at the same time Funimation being reactionary isn't unprecedented. We've seen this with them taking a 4 year hiatus from cropped and heavily DNRed releases after the final orange brick released in May 2009, even acknowledging with a poll there was even a debate (surely if they took no notice of fan backlash they wouldn't even offer them the chance to vote for 4:3), changing dialogue that needed fixing in the Super dub from the uncut Toonami broadcasts and selling Dragon Boxes at scalper prices at a convention to temp fans who have no doubt been after them for years. Not saying this was a similar case, but I wouldn't put it past Funimation.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Yeah, I'm not saying they can't or haven't been reactive to backlash in the past. I just think that in this particular scenario, the fake grain seems to be a continuing trend from the later Season Blu-ray sets. With the 30th set, it sadly seems like they haven't listened to any backlash at all, unless the new steelbooks miraculously use unfiltered footage.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Lool I honestly see them doing some bs like that. Them not promoting this release just confirms that these are just the 30th anniversary sets in season sets form.jaisonas wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 6:31 amIt will be a funny meme if they silently put these on selves and for some reason its a different remaster without dnr and everythingJEFFMAN219 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 3:05 pm Weird that the 1st 3 sets will be coming out in two weeks and Funimation hasn't been promoting them at all with trailers and posts on their social media pages. Looks like this gonna be a silent release like the Yu Yu Hakusho steelbooks.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
does any1 know if the dbz steelbooks are really the 30th year anniversary remasters?
Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Most likely, but we won't know for 100% sure until people get their hands on them. They are supposed to be 4:3 like the 30th anniversary sets, though, so it's probably a repackage of those.Kingbrockstar1995 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 5:35 pm does any1 know if the dbz steelbooks are really the 30th year anniversary remasters?

i mostly want these because they're Steelbooks And the closest Funimation may ever be to Toei's Quality
Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Just got my tracking number for my copy of Season 1. Looks like I might be one of the first to get them! I guess ponying up for better shipping worked out after all.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Would you be willing to grab screencaps for us incase by some bizarre miracle this isn't just a straight copy-paste of the 30th Anniversary set in cheaper packaging?

I'll try. I might need to buy a Blu-Ray disk drive for my laptop though, my old one's not working.ArmenianPepsi wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 3:38 pmWould you be willing to grab screencaps for us incase by some bizarre miracle this isn't just a straight copy-paste of the 30th Anniversary set in cheaper packaging?

No, that's why I wanted these. I don't own a complete set of the series, I've been streaming it.eledoremassis02 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 3:52 pmDo you have the 30th set?Catsenti wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 3:46 pmI'll try. For a screencap from the 30th set I'm sure you can just go back some pages and find some of the examples people have postedCatsenti wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 3:54 pmNo, that's why I wanted these. I don't own a complete set of the series, I've been streaming it.

Probably what I'll do. The visual difference would probably be quite obvious if they removed the fake grain.ArmenianPepsi wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:04 pmFor a screencap from the 30th set I'm sure you can just go back some pages and find some of the examples people have posted

As stupid as it sounds, I'm interested to see if they change the title card font yet againCatsenti wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:06 pmProbably what I'll do. I don't know, it would be pretty hard to find a font anymore boring than the 30th Set featuredeledoremassis02 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:08 pmAs stupid as it sounds, I'm interested to see if they change the title card font yet againCatsenti wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:06 pmProbably what I'll do. I just jinxed it lol
Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
They should use Gamer for 1-67 (matching the Ultimate Uncut Edition for 1-27... and presumably for 28-67, since those are missing in their original forms), and Bajoran for 68-291 (matching the original dub broadcast).

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
This may sound really stupid, but having the Japanese title cards and the English title cards in Bajoran is actually one of the only things the Orange Bricks do perfectly.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Still no trailers or promos for these sets and they're going to be released on Tuesday. Funimation is probably scared of the backlash that they're going to get from the fanbase about this
