I totally forgot about Muten being his first name/title, yeah. That could work too.Bussani wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Japanese isn't Muten his name while Roshi is his title? If so you could just switch it, having them look up Muten, not finding anything, and Goku suggesting Roshi. Would that work?

I'd rather not read the review, but the reactions to the review have me intrigued, and while there seems to be a lot of people finding things wrong with it, I'm seeing some more positive responses aswell. That makes me a little happy.

Hm, is that it? Does he even have a name then? I thought Kame Sen'nin was more of a nickname/description too.Adamant wrote:Muten isn't his name, it's part of his title. He's the "Muten-roushi", which translates to something along the lines of the "Old heavenly warrior master". Just less dumb-sounding.

Does he get a call from the Department of Redundancy Department?JAPPO wrote:Roshi calls himself "Muten Roshi the invincible" in the script and then laughs like a crazy person.
Just playing.
Seriously though, what I've read so far has leaned me away from the midle ground more towards the "I'll probably at least enjoy this movie" side of things. Far from perfect, but much better than it could have been.

Yeah, "Kame-sennin" translates to "Turtle Hermit", to use Daimao's translation, the character has never been referred to with an actual name. It's the same with "Kami" (though we at least learned he doesn't actually know his real name), Gyumaou, all the different Kaiou and Kaioushin, Saichourou, the Jinzouningen (sort of) and a couple others.Bussani wrote:Hm, is that it? Well I knew about the others, but not Roshi. Thanks, I learned something new today.Adamant wrote:Yeah, "Kame-sennin" translates to "Turtle Hermit", to use Daimao's translation, the character has never been referred to with an actual name. Roshi just humorously brought up his recently-deceased beloved Grandfather. I don't think ANY incarnation of Goku'd be particularly happy about it.Bussani wrote:In before shit-storm.JAPPO wrote:he sighs.

I suppose it just sounded better than Shadow Turtle Strike.Chuquita wrote:But....aren't all the "crane" technique's The Crane Hermit's field of play (and by extension Tenshinhan and Chaoutzu's?)
You know, what with the turtle and crane schools being rivals 'n all...
...Actually, I like that.
Edit:
Yeah, I know. But people have complained over smaller things if you ask me. Goku showing any sign of not being happy is AN ABOMINATION AND AN INSULT TO MR TORIYAMA.SSj Kaboom wrote:Roshi just humorously brought up his recently-deceased beloved Grandfather. This movie does such a good job at bringing Dragonball to life...SSj Kaboom wrote:Roshi just humorously brought up his recently-deceased beloved Grandfather. I don't think ANY incarnation of Goku'd be particularly happy about it.Bussani wrote:In before shit-storm.JAPPO wrote:he sighs.
Goku never really seemed to care about Gohan being dead... He casually tells Bulma and Yamcha about a monster stepping on him, doesn't seem all that phased at Vegeta helping him figure out he was the one that killed him...
Oh well. New context. I d'no why I'm still expecting to see my favorite scenes come to life.

I acknowledged the new context. I get it. I didn't say he was wrong. Sometimes it just seems like they purposefully go in the wrong direction.JAPPO wrote:Um dude he said RECENTLY. Still, whatever if you can't accept it not being word-for-word you won't like it. So just don't pay attention to this thread, you will hate everything.
And if it's wrong to compare the Dragonball movie to Dragonball, then I d'no what the fuck the movie's being made for...

Goku: "Oh Grandpa, I'm sorry...I'm sorry I can't beat this monster...I'm sorry I can't save the Earth...For you...I'll ask your forgivness, Grandpa...When I see you in Heaven...!"
There you go folks! Goku with self doubt, emotion and remorse towards the death of his grandfather
