Thanks for that. So Ishikawa right after 47 and Shimanuki after 48. 53 is Ishikawa so should be ok. But really looking forward to 54 by Shimanuki.

What if Otsuka and Shida are working on the same episode?
That would be rad.

So since Super isn't really following a manga, does that have a big impact on production? They have to plan every moment out and create their own completely unique story boards without reference.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

I imagine it adds to the existing troubles. If Super's production schedule was normal it wouldn't be an issue though.

Seriously where is Yamamuro at? I know ya'll don't like him much but it is a bit odd that he has only supervised one episode isn't it?

I wonder the same, some people might not like what he does, but man... where is he?. Why doesn't he at least supervise one complete episode again?

He may have only supervised on one episode, but he's worked on 3 episodes, one in each of the first 3 arcs. He'll probably show up during some big moment this arc.
His job is Character Designer and he also does the ending animations and works on the updates to the opening, so that work probably keeps him pretty busy.

The difference is really big not only is the facial expression off , the dramatic feel and tone has significantly been downgraded.

Vegeta training in the gravity chamber was done better in Z as well. But even worse i think going back to the gravity room again showcases a complete lack of originality.

They think "great" animation is something that's merely on-model with movement that isn't anything special.
The problem with adopting the model you suggested is that we cannot afford it right now.

I'm aware of that. I was talking about how some in the fanbase wouldn't accept something like that for DB because they think every episode besides the one with lots of talent would look mediocre or bad even though that's wrong & already the case.

-Episode 52-
Vegeta's training sequence was so good. He need more of the guy who did it.
I've been waiting since BOG Movie for his epicness again.
I got terribly disappointed when there was nothing from him in ROF Movie. His lack of involvement in Super didn't make me feel better either. In fact, when you see all the beautiful things he keeps doing for One Piece, lately in Heart of Gold and Film Gold, as a DB fan it's hard to not get sad.

I still think he would have been the perfect choice for Super Shenlong summoning.

I want to get excited about this news, but with Xenoverse 2 coming I just can't. It will feel like a kick in the balls, if he's only working for XV2 Opening.
I mean, arghhhh...

Fingers crossed.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

How is that a lack of originality? It's one of the best places for him to train, why wouldn't he use it?

Not really. The production still needs to be planned months ahead.

Point still stands, complaining because a DBS episode flashback doesn't have the same animation as a DBZ movie is pretty stupid. I don't care how many Naruto episodes looks better than DBZ movies, the norm is DB Movies > DB Episodes.

Shida's going to be working on Super? Fuck yes. It could literally just be 1 second of animation, I don't care, as long as he actually does something for Super I'll be happy. I've missed his work on this series so much. His work from Battle of Gods was superb.

Ajay wrote:Some good news to mark the 101th page of this thread with. Naotoshi Shida just mentioned on Twitter that he's going to be working on Dragon Ball in the future in a small capacity.

Here's the full transcription:

Fan: Shida-san, you've recently been working on the One Piece movie and today's special, right?
Shida: Also working on Dragon Ball a little bit(^^)
Fan: Wow, that makes me very happy \(^^)/ Working on Genga? Or working on storyboards like before?
Shida: Genga, and just a little... (^^;;
Fan: Aaaah! When you say it like that, it really does sound like it's just a short scene. But, I'll be waiting in anticipation. When that scene gets broadcast, I'll be selfish and contact you again \(^^)/

Awesome news.
Motherfucking. Yes.

This is just what Super, and Dragon Ball as whole, really needed. Anything from Shida is more than appreciated at this point. :P :)

It's not stupid because first of all, those cuts from the Z special aren't really, well, that special. We've seen better from the actual show..but that's not to say that they're not absolutely gorgeous. Now lets forget that animation has made technological jumps in the last 20 years since History of Trunks..everything about Super's version feels like a hollow, emotionless, flat, uglier piece of work. From the tone, to the art, direction, to the actual animation - it just sucks.

The Vegeta training scene, while it's animated a bit better, still falls flat compared to the Z version. The art has a lot to do with this as well, Z had it's own style that animators often exaggerated according to their own directorial & creative tastes which, quite frankly, lent a lot to it's charm and helped Z establish it's own identity. Signature poses and mannerisms helped establish a stylized identity for the characters as well. Z was also known for high speed, extremely detailed frames. Super doesn't have any of that - it looks half One Piece half Toriko and all shit. Look at Vegeta flying in that gravity from for crying outloud, nothing about it or the way he moves screams Vegeta and the lack of intensity makes it look really dull. This is a much bigger problem than the animation that everyone bitches about.

Even Black vs Goku had very little Z in the way they fought and it almost looked like another generic anime that quite frankly, if it weren't for the signature characters, nobody would waste their time watching. I do want to add, that Goku vs Hit was the closest we got and by far the best fight in the Super series.

It's falling back an old Vegeta trope that really doesn't add anything new or interesting to the character. Its lazy and you're headcanoning Super's laziness. We've literally seen that training sequence almost half a dozen times. Whis' planet was a step in the right direction even though it was executed rather poorly. It's not really a big deal but it shows how safe they're playing it (or rather, relying on fans nostalgia).

Yeah, because a thread about Super's animation is a good place to discuss your problems with the show.

I'm sorry, do you have anything worthwhile to contribute here? Or do you not understand that the art style and animation aren't mutually exclusive, which is why someone like Tate can be polarizing?
