Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion

Does anyone have anything they wanna know? (Though, again, One Piece podcast so I can't guarantee your Dragon Ball Question will be answered)

Ask how long into Kai she's slated to voice Gohan at this point. All the way up through the Cell Games, at least? Or will she even continue to voice him into the Boo era? It's doubtful she even knows the plan that far if there is one, but it's worth asking.

And also, perhaps what influenced her to not imitate the old dub voice? Was this new voice or Gohan something she did herself, or were there other influences?

I would like to ask her if she's recorded any of Luffy for any additional One Piece movies. I'd really like to see Funi release OP movies 4 and 6 especially.

Well, start insulting them for no reason, and then maybe they will.

I don't "insult" Sean Schemmel "for no reason", I criticize his lackluster Goku voice and lack of singing talent. Given his huge fanbase, you'd think he could get over a single detractor.

You never give a reason though. 499 out of 500 of your posts say "Man, Schemmel is terrible.", and then the remaining one explains why you don't like his performance. I'm guessing he saw one or more of your non-explanatory posts.

Apparently UPS doesn't have my order yet.

So I guess I won't be seeing my copy of Z Kai til mid or late next week

Usually, when a tracking number is first assigned to something, there's a bit of processing time even though it is actually on-the-move. I'd say check back later today or tomorrow for info to actually show up.

I'd say that a lot of us will be getting it early next week.

EDIT: In fact, I'm guessing we'll be getting it Monday.

Although, I guess that's a good news bad news deal.

Good news is I'll be getting Kai early and spill all the beans for you.

Bad news is you won't get those naked women to deal out extreme punishment onto you.

EDIT: Actually, it's not on the move. It only says that the shipping information has been received, so I guess it'll show up later than expected, but at least it doesn't say that the order doesn't exist anymore!

Incorrect. I've established my reasons for disliking his Goku in a good number of my posts. If he happens upon a less explanatory one and takes it to heart, that's his concern, not mine.

But seriously, this is a Dragon Ball Forum, so if you have One Piece Questions, PM them to me please! Collen Clinkenbeard's Gohan is relevant to this topic (Kai Dub), Her Luffy isn't, and I don't want to derail this thread with that.

It's interesting that do you feel compelled to say you don't like the Dragon Ball dub, though. I don't feel compelled to say that I like it all the time. I also don't feel compelled to say that I dislike the original 1996 dub of Dragon Ball Z, or the Westwood Media dub.

Exactly. I don't randomly type I dislike the FUNimation dub (if I do, someone please point it out), but if it comes up... Well, okay, let me use another example. If I say, "The season sets suck!" in a thread, I doubt it's really necessary for me to constantly explain why that is, even if you're a fan of them. I'll certainly explain myself if asked, but it's not like the discussion has never come up before... constantly... all the time... for three years.

If an impassioned attempt to give as accurate a dub as possible, with no extra-censorship (on home format), improved voice acting, and improved voice direction isn't enough of an incentive, then really, I can't see there ever being enough incentive at all, bar un-censoring what Toei did.

I wanted to respond to this sooner, but then suddenly it was two days later. Oops.

Anyway, I'm glad dub fans (and new fans who'll be introduced through the dub) are getting a better, more accurate product, but I just have no particular interest in seeing the series in English anymore. I already have a version that I like, and this fancy new dub still has a lot of actors and terms that I don't care for. If they'd re-cast everyone from scratch, that might be enough incentive for me, but as it stands they just haven't done enough to appeal to a stubborn old fart like me.

Also, I think the no extra censorship on home video should be kind of a given by now. There hasn't been anything that was edited-only in over ten years.

I posted about it last week but it was just before that whole Pokemon and One Piece argument so it got lost in these pages.

Hey guys, I saw a new Z Kai promo on NickToons. What it saw is that it will air on May 24th at 8PM with 4 days a week with a double premiere. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up but there still was no voice clips from the dub in the promo.
